Season 1 - Episode 16
We resume our episode this week at the Ahpla University student center, where the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha are hosting a homecoming welcome reception.
Camille (walking quickly throughout the room): Sorors! Please pick up the pace! Our guests will be arriving soon.
Dashia: Well maybe if you actually came over and helped us, we'd be moving a little faster, Camille!
Camille: Oh Soror. I'm the President of the Chapter. I have more important things to prepare.
Dashia: Oh really? Like what?
Kennedy: Good question.
Camille: I wouldn't expect you two to understand. I'm sure Sydney understands the plight of a president. Don't you, spec?
Sydney: Uh.......I'm not gettin' into that one!
Camille: Well anyway........let's just try to hurry.
Just then, PJ, June and Gina enter the room.
June: Skeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-Wee!
Everyone: Skeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-Wee!
Dashia, Kennedy, and Sydney run over to greet the older sorors. Camille follows behind slowly.
PJ: Hey sorors! I know you remember my sands, June but I'm not sure if you have all met Gina.
Gina: I remember meeting Dashia but I haven't met the neo's.
Sydney: Hi Soror Gina! I'm Sydney!
Gina: Hi Soror. Nice to meet you.
Kennedy: Hi soror! I'm Kennedy.
Gina: Hi soror!
PJ: Everything all set up for the reception?
June (chiming in): Yeah, ya'll need some help?
Sydney (shooting a glare at Camille): No thank you, sorors. We have it under control.
June: Well okay, but I don't mind. That's why we came early. Gotta make sure the chapter image is maintained! Who's comin' to the reception, anyway?
Dashia: Well we invited all of the greeks on campus, alums, administration, and faculty. We expect a pretty good attendance from the administration. I know a lot of the Alpha's are coming and a few of the Kappas.
PJ: The Kappas? Which ones?

Scene 2
Off campus, the ladies of Delta Sigma Theta have gathered at the home of Joseph and Carsen Davenport.
Carsen: Sorors, are you not attending the reception on campus?
Sheena: No, mom.
Carsen: Why not?
Natalie: We'd rather just hang out here and spend time with the sorors that are comin' from out of town. I mean I'm all about greek unity but I don't really feel like eating cucumber sandwiches today.
Sheena (laughing): Natalie! Girl you are wrong!
Natalie: What! It's true!
Laci: What time is everyone supposed to get here?
Carsen: Well I know my prophyte, Valerie Edwards was supposed to arrive yesterday but I haven't heard from here. Of course, Willie is here. We had lunch together today. I'm not sure about the others.
Laci: Soror Willie! Where is she?
Natalie: She wanted to go back to the hotel to wait for some of the other sorors to check in so they could come over together.
Sheena: Where's Taylor?
Natalie: Hmm?
Sheena: Taylor. Where is she? Don't act like you didn't notice she wasn't here. She's not exactly hard to miss.
Natalie: I'm not sure. I haven't talked to her.
Laci: Um........you did tell her where we were meetin' tonight, right?
Natalie: I think I did.
Laci: You think?
Laci pulls out her cell phone and begins to dial Taylor's number.
Carsen: Natalie! I'm surprised at you!
Laci: Taylor! Hey soror! It's Laci. We're over at Soror Davenport's house. Some of the older sorors are in town and they are coming over later. Do you know how to get here? Okay good. See you soon.
Laci hangs up her phone.
Laci: She'll be here in a few minutes.
Carsen: You owe her an apology, Natalie.
Natalie: All due respect, Soror Davenport, I don't owe that white girl anything.

Scene 3
Over at the Jewel House, the brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha are preparing to leave for the Alpha Kappa Alpha homecoming reception.
Demetrius (yelling): Let's go, frat!
Silence
Brian walks out to the front room.
Brian: What's up frat!
Demetrius: What's up is that we about to be late.
Brian: Nah, we alright. These things never start on time.
Demetrius: I guess.
Brian: Is your girl comin' to the reception? I need to talk to her about the Diversity Step Show next month.
Demetrius: Naw I don't think so. Why dont you ask Nate? He's her brother.
Brian: Just tell Natalie to holla at me sometime soon.
Demetrius: Alright.
Jovan walks down the stairs.
Jovan: Lookin good, bros!
Brian and Demetrius: Thanks, frat!
Jovan: Alright who we waitin on, now? We need to get goin'.
Demetrius: Where's Nate?
Jovan: He's comin'.
Brian: DeVaughn left early.
Jovan: What? I thought we were goin' over there together.
Brian: Yeah. Somethin' about seein if the sorors needed his help.
Laughter
Jovan (yelling up the stairs): Nate! Hey Nate! Let's go, man! We already late!
Nathaniel: I’m comin’ man! Dang!
(Nathaniel comes down fixing his shirt.)
Nathaniel: Yall act like a bunch of girls! Callin’ upstairs! Dang bros!
Jovan: We act like girls and you the one taking three hours to get dressed! Now come on! We supposed to meet Quinton and Jason up there.
Brian: Oh cool! Old bros in the building!
(As they leave, Demetrius’ cell phone rings.)
Demetrius: It’s DeVaughn.
(He answers and locks the door at the same time the brothers leave the Alpha house.)
Demetrius: Wassup D.
DeVaughn: Yo man, where yall at!
Demetrius: We just leavin’ the house now on our way to the AKA joint.
DeVaughn: Forget the AKAs! Man yall gotta come to Tandy Hall! These girls is havin’ a all night homecoming party! This joint is off the chain! You should see the girl who invited me! Come through right now!_______________________________________________________________________________________

Dashia: Which ones? All of em, I guess. Why?
June: You gonna punch em all in the face Peej?
PJ: Shut up. No, just the obnoxious ones who think they can come back in town after not calling, emailing, saying goodbye even and pick up where they left off! The nerve of…
June: Sands… calm down.
PJ: My bad. My bad. See, got me ready to haze somebody up in here!
Sydney: Well you can direct that aggression toward another soror.
Camille: And exactly what is that supposed to mean!
Sydney: Not you! Mona! She’s coming to this.
June: Oh great.
PJ: What yall invite her for?
Dashia: Well I couldn’t not invite her. I mean come on. I was hoping she would be too busy to show up. Or maybe not want to.
PJ: If Mona Ferguson can make an appearance, she will. Trust me on that.
(The sorors laugh.)
The older sorors pitch in to prepare the room with pink and green balloons, under the supervision of chapter president Camille. A few students begin to arrive and before you know it, a crowd has formed.
June: Hi honey.
Buck: Hey baby.
(They kiss.)
June: Hi Ronnie.
Ronnie: Hey June, how you doin’?
(Ronnie and June hug.)
June: Good, it’s good to see you. You look well.
Ronnie: You know me, doin’ my thang. You got Buck eatin’ well I see! He aint missed a meal!
(Ronnie pats Buck on his stomach.)
Buck: Shut up Dawg!(Ronnie laughs.)
Ronnie: Yo Dog, I’m bout to get me one of them sammiches!
Buck: Do you bruh, do you.
Ronnie: Arf! I’m owt!
June: Hon, you remember my soror Gina?
Buck: Gina…
June: Yeah, remember, she was dating that Sigma named Miri and then they got married?
Buck: Oh yeah, I remember him. He used to do slam poetry at the club.
June: Exactlyl! Okay, look over there!
Buck: Where?
June: Over there.
(June points toward the other side of the room.)June: See him?
Buck: Wait… that’s Miri?
June: Yes! I didn’t even recognize him!
Buck: You are lying! That’s him?
June: Can you believe it?
Buck: Wait, let’s walk over there and say hello! I gotta get a closer look!
(June laughs as they begin to walk over. But just as they begin to walk, there is a commotion at the door which turns to clapping.)
June: What’s going on?
Buck: It’s President Ferguson.
June: It is?
(Camille quiets the room.)
Camille: Everyone, I want to thank you all for coming on behalf of the lovely ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. If you are coming back to Ahpla University, then welcome home! Especially to our graduate sorors who are in the room, welcome home!
AKAs: Skeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!Camille: And speaking of soror alum, we have the honor and privilege of having one of our own, the president of the best HBCU in this country, please help me welcome Soror President Melinda Ferguson!
(Everyone claps. Melinda hugs Camille and steps behind the podium.)

(Everyone’s attention is diverted as two members of the football team walk in with no shirts on… and with Mona Ferguson seated upon their shoulders.)

Scene 2 Continued.......
Carsen: Soror Natalie! Taylor is a member of this sorority just like everyone else and she deserves respect and sisterhood! I’m surprised at you!
Natalie: I’m not trying to offend you Soror Davenport, but I’m honestly saying what most sorors in this chapter are thinking.Laci: Uh, no, speak for yourself soror! Not me.
Sheena: Me neither.
(The phone rings.)
Carsen: Oh this is probably Val.
(Carsen goes to answer the phone.)
Sheena: How can you say that to Soror Davenport! Are you crazy?
Natalie: Hey, at least I’m being honest. Taylor knows where she stands with me. This is an African American Greek letter organization. So why is a non African American interested in membership in the first place?
Sheena: Shhhh, here comes Soror Davenport.
Carsen: Ladies, I need to step out for a few minutes. You know where everything is, just make yourselves at home.
Sheena: Is everything okay Mom?
Carsen: Well that was Valerie Edwards and she sounded… she sounded shaken up about something. I don’t know what’s wrong so I told her to stay where she was and I would come and meet with her for a few minutes over coffee.
Carsen thinks: I hope everything is okay between her and Coach Edwards.
Laci: Okay well we’ll just stay here and Willie and the other sorors will probably come through.
Carsen: Alright. I’ll be back.
(As Carsen steps outside, she dials her husband Joseph to let him know that she is leaving the sorors in their home.)
Laci: Now, as we were saying about Taylor…
Natalie: You know, I really don’t wanna talk about Taylor anymore okay? I mean, we just can choose to disagree. It’s homecomin’. Sorors are in town, bruhs are in town, we gonna win the step show, let’s just have a good time and not argue okay?
Sheena: Well can you at least promise to be cordial?
Natalie: I always am.Laci: No, seriously.
(Everyone laughs.)
Sheena: Ya'll goin’ to the Kappa party?
Laci: I wanna go.
Natalie: You know Demetrius aint gonna be down with me goin’ to no Kappa party.
Laci: Just tell him you goin’ to a red and white affair. He’ll think its us!
(Everyone laughs, there is a knock on the door.)Sheena: Okay that’s Taylor. Natalie, play nice!
(Natalie rolls her eyes at Sheena. Sheena laughs as she opens the door.)Sheena: Sorors!
Theresa: Hey soror!
(Sheena hugs Theresa, Willie, Robin and Breanna.)
Natalie: Sorors! Its so good to see you all! I’m Natalie, president of the chapter.
Breanna: Hi sorors, I’m Breanna.Theresa: Hi sorors, I’m Theresa.
Willie: Hi sorors, I’m Willie.
Robin: Hi sorors, I’m Robin.
Laci: I’m Laci sorors, it’s so good to meet you all. We’ve all heard so much about you.
Sheena: Hi sorors, I’m Sheena, Carsen’s daughter.
Willie: Your mother speaks very highly of you soror. She here?
Sheena: She had to step out for a minute to meet soror Edwards. But she’ll be back.
Willie: Oh okay cool.
Robin: So sorors, what’s the plans for the weekend? Yall got something set up for us?
Laci: Glad you asked soror! We need some real prophyte wisdom here. What do yall think about white sorors in the chapter?

Brian: Wait wait, he said what?
Demetrius: There’s a party or something in the dorm. DeVaughn is there.
Brian: What? He’s there now?
Demetrius: Yes! He’s there now!
Jovan: I thought we were going to the AKA reception.
Brian: Yeah but what’s DeVaughn talkin’ bout?
Demetrius: I don’t know but you know how he is.
Jovan: Well maybe we should check it out. And then go to the AKA set.
Brian: What!
Nathaniel: You wanna go?
Jovan: I mean, what’s the harm? We pop in, see what it’s about, then head on over to the AKA set.
Brian: Are you serious?
Jovan: What?
Nathaniel: Hey, as long as aint no Zetas there…
Brian: Yall trippin’!
Jovan: Where’s the party at?
Demetrius: Tandy. Third floor. He said you can’t miss it when we get there.
Brian: Okay so check this out. If we go, we stay like fifteen. Then we go see the AKAs.
Demetrius: What’s your hurry? The AKAs gonna be there.
Brian: It aint about them but we told the oldhead bros to meet us there. So Jason, Quentin, Bobby, they all gonna be there and we aint. How that gonna look?
Nathaniel: B is right.
Jovan: Aight so we just stop through to see what DeVaugn is talkin’ bout. Then we bounce up to the reception. Cool?
Demetrius: Aight.
Nathaniel: Brian?
(Brian hesitates.)
Nathaniel: Don’t worry bruh, we gonna make sure aint no AKA's there either, we know your girl wanna be down with the pink and green!
Brian: Yeah but her Mom is DST so we gotta make sure no Deltas there neither!
Demetrius: Well the way DeVaughn make it sound, these girls may not even be Ahpla students! You should’ve heard the stuff in the background when we was on the phone! I thought he was up in the club!Jovan: Well hurry up then! Let’s go!
(The Alphas walk quickly toward Tandy Hall.)
Nathaniel: Yo bros, what sorority gonna win the stepshow?
Jovan: I don’t care, as long as we win! We gotta represent for frat comin’ in town!
Brian: Yeah, that’s what’s up!
Jovan: Yo call DeVaughn and check the room real quick so we can find this party.
Demetrius: He said third floor.
Jovan: Well call him just to see if the set is still goin’ on.
Demetrius: Aight.
(Demetrius dials DeVaughn and gets his voicemail…twice.)
Demetrius: Got his voicemail both times.
Jovan: Then this party must be the craziness! Come on yall!
(They hurry until they reach Tandy Hall. Once they are on the third floor, the party is easy to find. There is music coming out of one room and people in the hall around the open door.
Jovan: Yo, any of these chicsk go to Ahpla?
Nathaniel: If they do, they been hidin’ all year!
(Nathaniel looks one girl up and down as he walks past her to enter the room.)
Brian: I don’t think nobody in here goes to Ahpla! And where the heck is DeVaughn?
Demetrius: There he is!(DeVaughn is in a corner talking to a girl.)
Demetrius: Frat! Wassup bruh!
(DeVaughn turns around.)DeVaughn: Brethren! Glad you all could make it! Let me introduce you to my new friend… who has… other friends… if you know what I mean!
Brian: Don’t worry, we’re not stayin’.
Nathaniel: I’m sayin’ B, we aint gotta rush out.
Jovan: Yeah like we said, sorors aint goin’ nowhere.
Brian: But yall said fifteen minutes! These chicks don’t even go to Ahpla!
DeVaughn: Yeah they do, you just never seen em cuz you all up under your girl all the time! Stop being a pansy and have some fun for once! It’s homecomin’!
Bobby: Yeah… have some fun for once! I never thought I’d see the day when an Alpha wants to leave a good party!
(Bobby smiles.)
Jovan: Bobby! Wassup Frat!
Demetrius: What you doin’ here bruh!
(Bobby looks around the room then back at Demetrius.)
Bobby: What you think?
(Demetrius laughs. DeVaughn steps up with his girl.)
DeVaughn: Yo oldhead bruh, let me introduce you to my newest girl. Ahpla alum too… and fine as…
Caryn: He knows who I am… no introduction needed! Wassup Bobby… how ya been playa?
