Season 1 - Episode 32

We resume our episode this week with Kiaterria, who has just arrived at her boyfriend, Jeff's apartment.

Jeff (opening door): Oh um, hey baby.

Kiaterria: Hi honey!

Jeff: Wha...what are you doin' here? I wasn't expecting you.

Kiaterria: I know! I wanted to surprise you.

Silence

Kiaterria: You don't seem happy to see me!

Jeff: Oh, I am. Just surprised, that's all.

Kiaterria: Well, can I come in? Dag, Jeff! Do you want me to leave?

Jeff: No, I don't want you to leave. Of course you can come in.

Jeff steps to the side, while Kiaterria walks past him.

Kiaterria: So what you been up to all night? I tried to call you.

Jeff: Oh, um...not much. Just uh...playin' around on the computer.

Kiaterria: Oh, okay.

Jeff: So how was your dinner?

Kiaterria: Um, it was good. We had a nice time.

Jeff: What did ya'll talk about?

Kiaterria: Girl stuff!

Jeff: Oh excuse me! I was just asking!

Kiaterria: We did talk about Stasha and Kyle...

Over at the apartment of Sheena and Natalie, Nathaniel is spending time with his sister.

Nathaniel: So Nat...how you been feelin'?

Natalie: A lot better, actually. I should be able to go back to class pretty soon.

Nathaniel: That's good. What did Dr. Davenport say?

Natalie: He said everything looks great and I'm healin' pretty well.

Nathaniel: Good. You have me worried for a minute there.

Natalie: Awww! Nate! You really do care!

Nathaniel: Yeah, but don't tell anybody!

Natalie (laughing): Whatever! So what's goin' on with you and your girl?

Nathaniel: Who, Laray?

Natalie: Who else?

Nathaniel (sighing): Nat, I don't even know. Everything is so crazy right now.

Natalie: What do you mean?

Nathaniel: I mean you know......everything has been great with us and then it's like lately, we not really gettin' along. We used to never argue and now it's like, we can't even look at each other without fightin'.

Natalie: Dag. That's crazy.

Nathaniel: Yeah...

Natalie: So are ya'll broken up or what?

Nathaniel: I don't even know...

Sheena walks into the apartment.

Sheena: Hey soror! Ooo-ooop!

Natalie: Hey soror!

Sheena: Hey Nate! What you doin' here?

Nathaniel: Just checkin' in on my sis, that's all.

Sheena: That's cool. I had a long day so I'm gonna run and take a quick shower.

Natalie: Okay.

Sheena heads back towards her bedroom.

Natalie: So Nate......what about Sheena? I mean now that you are Laray are havin' problems....

Scene 1 Continued...

Kiaterria: We did talk about Stasha and Kyle...

Jeff: Oh Really?

Kiaterria: Yeah...

Jeff: Tee, why you bringin' your cousin up to me? You know he don't like me.

Kiaterria: Jeff, I really wish you two could get along. Kyle is my favorite cousin.

Jeff: Yeah, I know but it's not for lack of tryin' on my part.

Kiaterria: I know.

Jeff reaches down and grabs his knee and winces in pain.

Kiaterria: Baby, what's wrong?

Jeff: My knee is still bothering me.

Kiaterria: What did the trainer say?

Jeff: I mean he still got me in therapy but it's still givin' me problems.

Jeff reaches over for a pill bottle and opens it. he pours 3 pills into his hand and swallows them down quickly with water.

Kiaterria: Baby, what was that?

Jeff: Oh nothin'. Just a painkiller the team doctor prescribed for me. Helps to take the edge off a bit.

Kiaterria: Oh. Okay. I didn't know your knee was botherin' you so much.

Jeff: It's not.

Kiaterria: Well it must be, if you are takin' somethin for it.

Jeff: I'm fine.

Kiaterria: Jeff, when did you start taking those? And how many are you supposed to take? It kinda seemed like a lot.

Jeff: Tee, why don't you just drop it, okay? I don't want to talk about my knee.

Kiaterria: Sorry. I don't want to upset you. I just.....

Jeff: I know baby. I"m sorry for yellin'. I guess I'm just upset because it's not healing as fast I wanted it to and I'm loosing a lot of time where I could be workin' out and gettin' better.

Kiaterria: I understand, baby. I love you and I'm here for you.

Jeff: I love you too, baby.

Jeff reaches over to hug Kiaterria. He sees another one of his pill bottles behind her on the couch and reaches behind her to slide the bottle behind a pillow to hide it.

Off campus at the home of Carsen and Joseph Davenport, Joseph has just returned home from work.

Joseph turns to leave the kitchen and as he is leaving, a bunch of papers fall out of his jacket pocket.  As he turns to gather them, Carsen helps him by picking up some of them. She comes across a print out receipt from a flower company for two dozen long stemmed pink roses.  She smiles in excitement at the thought that her husband is surprising her by having flowers delivered to her the next day.  As she is standing, her smile quickly disappears when she realizes the delivery confirmation date was the day before.

Carsen:  Joe…..

Joseph: Yes, Carsen, what is it?

Carsen: There’s a flower receipt here.

Joseph looks up from the floor in surprise and stares at Carsen in silence.

Carsen: Joe……are ……you having an affair?

Joseph: What?

Carsen: This flower reciept...it's dated for yesterday.

Joseph grabs the receipt out of Carsen's hand.

Joseph: They were for Judy.

Carsen: Excuse me?

Joseph: Yesterday was nurse's appreciation day at the hospital.

Carsen: Oh. Okay.

Joseph: Is that it?

Carsen: Um...yeah.

Joseph: Okay, then. I'll be in my office.

Carsen: Okay.

Joseph walks toward the back and Carsen goes back into the kitchen to start on dinner. She hears the shower turn on, right before the home phone begins to ring.

Carsen: Hello?

Nurse Judy: Oh hello, Mrs. Davenport, it's Judy.

Carsen: Hi Judy. How are you?

Judy: I'm great. Listen, I wanted to call and thank Dr. Davenport for the lovely flowers he sent yesterday.

Carsen: Oh......flowers...yeah, he just told me about that.

Judy: Well they are beautiful.

Carsen: Dr. Davenport is in the shower now but I can certainly give him your message.

Judy: Thanks, Mrs. Davenport.

Carsen: Judy, please! We've known you for years. Call me Carsen.

Judy: Oh, okay....well then, Carsen...thanks for giving him the message and I'll just see him tomorrow.

Carsen: Okay, Judy. I'll talk with you later on. Bye Bye.

Carsen hangs up the phone and smiles to herself in relief before heading towards the back to give her husband the message.

Scene 2 Continued....

Natalie: So Nate......what about Sheena? I mean now that you are Laray are havin' problems....

Nathaniel: What do you mean?

Natalie: I mean what about Sheena? You know she likes you.

Nathaniel: I'm not even out of this relationship and you already tryin' to push me into another one.

Natalie: I'm not tryin' to push you into anything. I just think Sheena would be somebody cool for you to hang out with. Might help you get your mind off your problems with Laray.

Nathaniel: Or it might add to my problems with Laray! (laughs)

Natalie: I mean.......I'm not sayin' you gotta broadcast it all over campus. All I'm sayin' is maybe you could take Sheena out to dinner or to a movie or somethin'.

Nathaniel: I don't know, Nat.

Natalie: Trust me, dear brother...I know what I'm talkin' about. I'm not tellin' you to marry the girl! I'm just sayin' hang out with her a little bit. You might be surprised at how much you two have in common.

Nathaniel: I guess....

Sheena: You guess what? What are you two out here talkin' about?

Natalie: Oh hey Sheen. How was your shower?

Sheena: Relaxing! What a day!

Natalie: What happened?

Sheena: I don't even wanna talk about it! Right now I just wanna get myself somethin' to eat.

Natalie: Well good luck findin' somethin' here!

Sheena: Oh that's right! I cooked the last of everything last night. I guess I will have to run out and get somethin'. I really don't feel like it, though.

Natalie elbows Nathaniel and clears her throat loudly.

Nathaniel: Uh......Sheena....I was gettin' ready to head out to get some dinner myself, if you wanted to come along.

Sheena: I'd love to! Just give me a few minutes to change!

Sheena hurries back towards her room to change clothes.

Natalie: Yeah! I'm so excited!

Nathaniel: It's just dinner, Nat.

Natalie: I know! But it's something.

Nathaniel's cell phone begins to ring.

Nathaniel: Hello?

Krystalyn: Nate! It's Krystalyn! You have to come quick! Laray's been arrested!

Scene 3 Continued...

Carsen: Joe!

Joseph: Yes?

Carsen: Honey, are you out of the shower?

Joseph: Yes, I'm back in the bedroom.

Carsen walks back into the bedroom. Joseph is sitting on the side of the bed in his bathrobe.

Carsen: Judy just called.

Joseph: Oh..is something wrong?

Carsen: No! Not at all. She was callin' to thank you for the flowers.

Joseph: Ahh...okay. Well I'm glad she liked them.

Silence

Carsen: Joe...

Joseph: Yes?

Carsen: I'm sorry.

Joseph: Sorry for what?

Carsen: Sorry for thinking you were having an affair. I should have never jumped to that conclusion. I should have asked you first.

Joseph: No big deal.

Carsen; So....I'm starting dinner. It's a nice night. You think you might want to eat out on the back deck?

Joseph: I'm not very hungry.

Carsen: Joe, how long are we going to do this?

Joseph: How long are we going to do what?

Carsen: How long are we going to ignore the big elephant in the room?

Joseph: I have no idea what you are talking about.

Carsen: I'm talking about the fact that you have never forgiven me for what happened.

Joseph: I really don't want to get into this now.

Carsen: Well, we need to. When I was talking to my counselor last week, she said...

Joseph: You've been talking to a counselor about me?

Carsen: Well.....yes...I mean not just about you...about everything...

Joseph: You know I don't like people knowing our personal business.

Carsen: But the counselor is not a friend. She's a professional. And I really think if you came with me some time, it could really help us.

Joseph: I'm not going to a counselor, Carsen.

Joseph gets up and begins to dress.

Carsen: Are you leaving?

Joseph: Yes.

Carsen: But you just got home!

Joseph: I won't be gone long. I have a few errands I need to run tonight. It can't wait.

Carsen: Well, okay...what time will you be back?

Joseph: I'm not sure. Don't wait up for me.

Joseph leaves Carsen in the bedroom before she can respond, and heads out towards his car. He gets in his car and picks up his cell phone.

Joseph: Hey baby. It's me. I'm glad you called me today. Thanks for giving me another shot at this thing. I promise you I won't mess it up this time. I'm on the way to our place now. I'll see you in 15 minutes.

Melinda: Okay. I'll see you then.
