Season 1 - Episode 34

Our story resumes this week off campus with Joseph Davenport, who has just arrived at the cabin that he and Melinda Ferguson share.

Melinda (opening door): Hey...

Joseph: (smiling): Hey you.

Silence

Melinda: Well um...please, come in.

Joseph: Thanks.

Joseph walks past Melinda into the cabin. He takes of his jacket and goes to sit down on the coach. Melinda follows and sits across from him on the love seat.

Joseph: Wow, so how are you? You look great.

Melinda: Thank you. You look great too. I'm fine. How are you?

Joseph: Nervous.

Melinda: Nervous about what?

Joseph: Well this...us...I just...I don't wanna mess things up again. I don't wanna push you away. I don't want to say the wrong thing.

Melinda: I understand.

Joseph: I'm so glad you called me.

Melinda: Well.......I got the flowers you sent me and....well I thought we could at least talk....

Joseph: Melinda, I miss you.

Melinda: I miss you too, Joe.

Joseph walks over to Melinda and pulls her into a tight embrace.

Over in Denitra's apartment, her and Lashonda are together studying Alpha Kappa Alpha history.

Denitra: Okay Shonda, let's go over this again. Name the Incorporators.

LaShonda: Nitra! I'm tired! Let's take a break!

Denitra: Okay but only a small one. We really gotta get this information.

LaShonda: Have you heard from Big Sister Paper Wait today?

Denitra: No, I haven't. She said she was gonna be tied up with somethin' else tonight but if she had time to get us together, she would call.

LaShonda: Did she say anything yet about when the official process is gonna start?

Denitra: No.

LaShonda: Nitra.....Brian thinks....

Denitra: Brian? You told Brian?

LaShonda: Well........yeah......I mean.........he's my boyfriend.

Denitra: But you're not supposed to tell anyone when you're pledgin'!

LaShonda: But technically, we're not even really pledgin' yet. And i mean....he's greek so I thought he'd be able to help or somethin'.

Denitra: He didn't tell anyone, did he?

Scene 1 Continued...

Joseph walks over to Melinda and pulls her into a tight embrace.

Melinda leans into Joseph's chest and begins to cry.

Joseph: Baby, what is it?

Melinda continues to cry and Joseph pulls her tighter.

Joseph: Baby, are you okay?

Melinda: Yeah...no...it's just....I love you and I want to be with you but....

Joseph: Shhh.....just let me hold you.

Joseph continues to hold Melinda as she cries.

Joseph: Melinda, we've been through so much....I just can't shake you.

Melinda: I know. I feel the same way.

Joseph: It's like I never stopped thinkin' about you and then all of a sudden, you were back into my life. And now that you are here, I don't want to loose you. I know it might force us to make some difficult decisions, but I'm willing to do that, Linda.

Melinda: Joe....

Joseph lifts Melinda's face up to his and begins to kiss her slowly.

Melinda: Oh Joe....what are you we going to do?

Joseph: We'll figure it out tomorrow. For now, just let me hold you...

Back on campus at the Jewel House, Jovan is relaxing with his girlfriend, Joi, who has just arrived.

Jovan: So how was your day?

Joi: Busy.

Jovan: Girl you better take it easy! You got my son or daughter to take care of.

Joi: I'm not overdoing it.

Jovan: Okay....

Joi: So guess what?

Jovan: What's up?

Joi: I went to the Zeta Phi Beta informational tonight.

Jovan: What? You did?

Joi: Yep.

Jovan: You thinkin' bout pledgin' this semester?

Joi: Thinkin' bout it.

Jovan: Are you sure? I mean you are due in a few months. I don't want you doin' anything that would be too strenuous.

Joi: Yeah, I know. But I think it will be okay. Krystalyn seemed really interested in me. Besides, after what happened tonight, they might be pushin' the line back to next semester anyway.

Jovan: What do you mean?

Joi: Some police officers came lookin' for Laray.

Jovan: What? Why?

Joi: I have no idea. All I know is they came and interrupted the meetin' and next thing I know, she was leavin' with them. I mean she didn't have on cuffs or anything so I don't know if they arrested her or not.

Jovan: That's crazy! I need to try to call Nate!

Jovan reaches down and dials Nathaniel's number. He does not answer the phone.

Jovan: Hey Nate....It's Jovan. Hit me back.

Scene 2 Continued...

Denitra: He didn't tell anyone, did he?

LaShonda: No! Of course not! He wouldn't do that.

Denitra: Okay but we can't tell anyone else!

LaShonda: You didn't tell Joriah?

Denitra: No. Why would I tell him?

LaShonda: Well I mean, I know you two are...

Denitra: We are nothing. We were together. But it's over.

LaShonda: Completely?

Denitra: I don't know. But for now, yes.

LaShonda: Well you been talkin' to anybody else?

Denitra: Um, not really. I went out with Armani once.

LaShonda: The Que?

Denitra: Yeah..

LaShonda: And how did that go?

Denitra: Hot mess!

LaShonda (laughing): Yeah, I bet!

Denitra: I don't know. I'm not really worried about that anymore. I have so much goin' on right now, I don't have time for a relationship, anyway.

LaShonda: Yeah, I hear you.

Someone knocks at the door.

Denitra: Who is it?

Tierra: Hey Nitra! It's Tierra!

Denitra gets up to let her in.

Denitra: Hey girl!

Tierra: Hey Nitra! Oh Hey Shonda!

Denitra: So what's up!

Tierra: What's up is this!

Tierra holds up a flier r for the two girls to see.

Denitra: Is that what I think it is?

Tierra: Yes it is! The AKA's are having their Formal Rush next Tuesday! This is it girls! It's time!

Scene 3 Continued...

Jovan reaches down and dials Nathaniel's number. He does not answer the phone.

Jovan: Hey Nate....It's Jovan. Hit me back.

Jovan: Joi, why didn't you say anything before?

Joi: I don't know. I mean...I guess I just wasn't really thinkin' about it.

Jovan: Nate is gonna be really upset.

Joi: Are they still havin' problems?

Jovan: Sort of. Oh man, poor Laray. I hope everything is alright. And you said the police just showed up?

Joi: Yeah...oh with Mona.

Jovan: Mona?

Joi: Yeah...

Jovan: I should have known she would have somethin' to do with it. This is terrible.

Jovan's phone begins to ring.

Jovan: Nate!

Nathaniel: Frat! We have an emergency!

Jovan: I just heard! Where you at?

Nathaniel: On my way over to the police station. Can you meet me up there?

Jovan: I'm on my way.

Nathaniel: Thanks, man.

Jovan hangs up the phone.

Jovan: That was Nate. He wants me to meet him at the station? You wanna go with me?

Joi: No I'm kinda tired. Is it okay for me to wait for you here?

Jovan: Of course. I'll call you when I can.

Jovan leans down to kiss Joi before heading towards the door. As he is leaving, Brian is coming in past him.

Jovan: What's up Frat. Laray got arrested or somethin' like that!

Brian: What?

Jovan: Yeah so I'm headin' over there to meet up with Nate.

Brian: Oh alright. Call me if you need somethin'.

Jovan: Cool. Oh yeah....Joi is here...

Brian: Oh. Okay.

Jovan closes the door behind him and Brian walks around the corner to find Joi sitting on the couch.

Joi: Oh hey Brian! How are you?

Brian: I'm good. You?

Joi: I'm great! A little tired!

Brian: Well get some rest. I'm gonna head upstairs.

Joi: Okay!

Brian begins to walk away and then turns back.

Brian: Hey Joi...you know I started a new internship at the Planned Parenthood clinic...

Joi: Oh really?

Brian: Yeah. I uh...thought I saw you going into the building last week. Was that you?
