Season 1 - Episode 35 Our story resumes this week at the dorm of Laray and Krystalyn. Krystalyn, Laray, and Nathaniel have just arrived from the police station. Krystalyn: Laray, you okay? Laray: I guess. Nathaniel: Laray, maybe you should take a hot shower. It will probably help you to relax. Laray: Yeah. Nate, thanks a lot for comin' down to the station. It really means a lot. Nathaniel: Of course. Laray: I guess we need to talk, huh? Nathaniel: Yeah, we do. But if you're tired, I understand. Laray: I am, but we might as well talk now. Krystalyn: Oh um.....I need to call Patrick, anyway. I'll just be downstairs in the lobby. Laray: Thanks, Krys. I'll let you know when Nate leaves. Krystalyn: No problem, soror. Krystalyn heads towards the door and closes it behind her. Laray: Nate, thanks again for comin' down there to see about me. Nathaniel: Of course. I mean no matter what is goin' on between us, you know I always got your back. Laray: I know. Nathaniel: So are you ready to tell me what's goin on? Why were you arrested, Laray? What did you do? ______________________________________________________________________________________ Over at P.J.'s apartment, the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority have gathered for a meeting. Camille: Okay sorors, we need to talk about this tea next week. We put some fliers up around campus. The room is booked. Kennedy, please give us an update on the agenda. Kennedy: Thank you, Soror. Right now, I have us starting off with introductions of all of the sorors in the chapter. After introductions, we'll have sorority and chapter history, greetings from P.J., a few ice breakers, and then we can go over the procedure to apply for membership. Camille: Thank you, soror. Does anyone have any questions about the agenda? Silence Camille: Okay, then. Moving on....Sydney, what is the update on the refreshments? Sydney: I talked to the campus catering service today to finalize our order. They will be at the Student Activities Center to set up at 6:00 p.m. Dashia and I will be there to meet them and to get the room set up on time. Camille: Okay, great. Now in terms of attire, everyone be sure to wear either your pink or green suit that we purchased for regional's last semester. P.J., do you have anything you'd like to add? P.J.: Not yet. Everything sounds great, sorors! Camille: Thank you! Has anyone heard any interest from anyone on campus? Sydney: I've had a few people talk to me. One of them was Tierra. Dashia: Tierra? I thought she was interested in Sigma Gamma Rho! Kennedy: Tierra, the Communications major? Somebody told me she wanted to be a Zeta! Sydney: Well, she talked to me about being really interested in the sorority. Kennedy: Now you know this one girl did say something to me a few days ago. Um....what's her name...you know Brian's girlfriend... Sydney: Lashonda? Kennedy: Yeah, that's her! But um...she was bein' so weird. Like she thought I already knew who she was or somethin'.... ______________________________________________________________________________________ Scene 1 Continued... Nathaniel: So are you ready to tell me what's goin on? Why were you arrested, Laray? What did you do? Silence Nathaniel: Laray, if you don't tell me, I can't help you. Laray: Honestly, Nate, there's really nothin' you can do to help. Nathaniel: Well why don't you let me be the judge of that? Laray (sighing): Well...I was arrested for theft. Nathaniel: Theft? Theft of what? Laray: Student Assembly money. Nathaniel: What? That's crazy! Silence Nathaniel: Laray! Did you do it? What were you thinkin'? Laray: I wasn't thinkin'! I mean the credit card company sent me that card over the summer, and...I don't know...it was like small purchases here and there that I figured I could pay back...but small purchases start to add up after awhile. Honestly Nate, I never thought I had spent that much. I didn't realize it until I was puttin' together the beginning of the year report. And at that point, I didn't know what to do. I had every intention to pay that money back, Nate. Honestly, I did. Nathaniel: I believe you, Laray but I just can't understand why you didn't say anything. I could have helped you pay some of it back before anyone noticed! Laray: I know. I didn't tell anyone but Krys. I just....I didn't know who I could trust. Nathaniel: Wow. You didn't know if you could trust me? Laray: Nate, that's not what I meant. Silence Nathaniel: So now what? What happens next? Laray: I don't know, Nate. Mona has already called a special session of the Assembly for this Tuesday. More than likely, I'll be removed from my office. And if the school decides to not drop the charges, I could be facing something a lot worse... ______________________________________________________________________________________ Over at the Jewel House, Brian has just arrived home to find Joi there waiting for Jovan to come back from the police station. Joi: Oh hey Brian! How are you? Brian: I'm good. You? Joi: I'm great! A little tired! Brian: Well get some rest. I'm gonna head upstairs. Joi: Okay! Brian: Hey Joi...you know I started a new internship at the Planned Parenthood clinic... Joi: Oh really? Brian: Yeah. I uh...thought I saw you going into the building last week. Was that you? Joi: What? The Planned Parenthood? Um...No, I don't think so. Brian: Oh okay. Are you sure? Cause it looked a lot like you. Joi: Oh you know...maybe it was me. Yeah, that's right. I'm so forgetful these days. I had to do some research for one of my classes. Brian: Oh, it was for school? Joi: Of course. Why else would I be there? Brian: I'm not sure. That's why I asked. I mean, I haven't heard Jovan say anything about you havin' any problems, so I was a little concerned. Joi: That's sweet, Brian but I'm fine, thanks. Brian: No problem. Brian turns again to go upstairs. Joi: Hey Brian... Brian: What's up? Joi: You didn't say anything to Jovan about seeing me over there, did you? ______________________________________________________________________________________ Scene 2 Continued... Kennedy: Now you know this one girl did say something to me a few days ago. Um....what's her name...you know Brian's girlfriend... Sydney: Lashonda? Kennedy: Yeah, that's her! But um...she was bein' so weird. Like she thought I already knew who she was or somethin'.... Camille: What do you mean? Kennedy: I don't know. She was just actin' all weird and nervous. And she said I am LaShonda....as if that should have clued me in about who she was or somethin'. Dashia: Well what did you say? Kennedy: I didn't really say anything. I just said hi and kept it movin'. Camille: These girls are so strange now on campus. We'll be lucky if we find 5 people that we actually like enough to bring into the sorority. Sydney: Yeah, really. P.J.: Oh sorors, don't be so mean! You know some of you were a bit questionable when you first came around...(laughing) Camille: Soror P.J.! That is terrible! (laughs) P.J.: It's true! You can't expect these girls to be perfect. That's what the process is all about. As long as they show some decent potential, you'll be able to help turn them into what a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha should be. Sydney: Well, that's true.... Camille: Well, it looks like everything is all set for our process. There's only one thing left that we need to do... Kennedy: What's that? Camille: We have to get our process approved by the Director of Greek Life. Sydney: Mona! ______________________________________________________________________________________ Scene 3 Continued... Joi: Hey Brian... Brian: What's up? Joi: You didn't say anything to Jovan about seeing me over there, did you? Brian: Uh....no, I didn't. Why? Joi: Oh no reason. I mean, you know....it's no need to get Jovan all upset for nothin'. Brian: Mmm Hmm. Okay. Joi: Thanks, Brian. I really appreciate it. Brian: Yep. Just then, the doorbell rings. Brian leaves Joi to go answer the door. Brian: What's up Patrick! Patrick: Hey what's up Brian. Brian: What you doin' over here? Patrick: I came to pick up that info you had for my team for the Diversity Step. Brian: Oh that's right. I forgot you said you was comin' by tonight. I gotta go upstairs and print it real quick. Come in, if you want. Patrick: Thanks. Patrick steps inside. Brian: Hey Joi...do you know Patrick? He's a Sigma. Joi: Oh....mmm hmmm. H..Hi Patrick. Patrick: Hi Joi. Brian: Alright then, give me five minutes to get this stuff printed up for you and I'll be right back. Patrick: Cool. Brian heads upstairs. Patrick: So...Joi....how are you? Joi: I'm fine. Patrick: Where's Jovan? Joi: He had an emergency. Patrick: And he just left you here by yourself? Joi: I offered to stay. If you haven't noticed, I'm seven months pregnant. I don't move as fast as I used to, and I didn't want to slow him down. Patrick: That's cool. Silence Joi: So how are things goin'? Patrick: Pretty good. Joi: That's good. Silence Joi: You know, Patrick, we really still need to finish our conversation from that day at the diner. This thing is not goin' away. Don't you want to know the truth? Don't you think we owe it to ourselves to know? Jovan: To know what? Joi and Patrick look up to find Jovan standing in the doorway.
