Mona's cell phone rings. Mona: Hello? Denitra: Hello Big Sister Paper Weight! Mona: What do you want? Denitra: Uh uh... Mona: Well? Spit it out. I don't have all night. Denitra: Just callin' to get the time for our set tonight. Mona: 10:28. Denitra: Tha.. Mona hangs up the phone before she can finish. As soon as she hangs up, the phone rings again. Without looking, Mona picks up the phone and begins to yell. Mona: I said 10:28! What else do you want? Melinda: Excuse me? Mona pulls the phone back and looks to see that it is her mother. Mona: Oh, um, hi mom. Melinda: Hello to you to. And who, might I ask did you think I was? Mona: Oh uh....it's nothin'. What's up, mom? Melinda: Your father's birthday is on Saturday. Mona: I know. Melinda: I was just making sure you remember. We're all meeting for dinner at 8:00 p.m. Mona: I remember. Melinda: Please be on time. Mona: Yes, mother. Melinda: Mona, why are you rushing me? Am I interrupting something? Mona: No, but I do have somewhere to be soon. Melinda: At this hour? Silence Melinda: Mona Grace Ferguson....what are up to? Mona: It's nothin', mother. I'm fine, okay? Melinda: Mmmmm.........alright, if you say so. I guess I'll see you tomorrow. Mona: Bright and early! Melinda: Good night, dear. Mona: Night, mom. Mona hangs up the phone and begins to gather her things to meet up with the line. Just before she heads out, she runs back to her room and picks up a paddle. Mona: Oh yes, I'll definitely be needing this tonight... ______________________________________________________________________________________ Across campus, Taylor is alone in her apartment. She picks up the phone to dial a number. Voicemail: Hi....you've reached KaShawn. You know what to do. Peace. Taylor: KaShawn...hi....it's me.....again. (sighs) We need to talk. I know you are totally pissed off at me, but...I don't even know what to say but I'm sorry. Shawn, please call me. I want to talk to you. I'll be home all night. Taylor hangs up the phone and walks into the kitchen to fix dinner. As she starts to prepare a meal, she hears a knock at the door. Taylor thinks: Hmm........maybe it's Shawn. Taylor quickly fixes her hair and smoothes out her clothes before going to answer the door. Taylor opens the door and is surprised to find Laci on the other side. Taylor: Oh. Laci.........hi. Laci: Hey Soror! Taylor: Hey. Laci: Dag! Did I come at a bad time or somethin'? Taylor: No, it's not that. I just........never mind...you wanna come in? Laci: Of course! Taylor moves to the side to let Laci in the door. Taylor: So what brings you by? Laci: Nothin' much. I just thought I'd pop in to see what you were doin'. Taylor: Oh nothin'. Just about to eat dinner. Have you eaten? Laci: Yeah, I have. Thanks. Silence Laci: So the Founder's Day dinner was pretty fun, huh? Taylor: Oh...yeah. Mmm hmm. It was great. Laci: Taylor, you okay? You seem kinda sad. Taylor: Not really. Laci: Soror, what's wrong? Taylor bursts out into tears. Laci: Oh my gosh! Off campus, in an alley behind the diner, Mona has arrived to meet up with her line. Mona: Ivies! Denitra: Hello Big Sister Paper Wait! LaShonda: Hello Big Sister Paper Wait! Tierra: Hello Big Sister Paper Wait! Mona: Where are the other girls? Denitra: We don't know, Big Sister Paper Wait. We haven't heard from them and we told them... Mona: You don't know? What do you mean, you don't know? I told you that you are to know at all times where your line sorors are! LaShonda: Big Sister Paper Wait, I think the other girls have decided not to finish the process. Mona: Oh really? They couldn't handle it, huh? Silence Mona: Well........isn't someone going to answer me? Denitra: Well Big Sister Paper Wait, they....welll.... Mona: Well what? What is it? Denitra: They were afraid that this wasn't an official line so they said they weren't comin' anymore. Mona: Not an official line? Why would they think that? Am I not an Alpha K. Alpha sister? Silence Mona: Well....am I? Tierra: Yes, Big Sister Paper Wait! Mona: Do you all trust me or not? Because if you don't, we can end this process right now. I do not have time to spend with girls who don't trust me. Do you know how many girls on this campus would love to be in your position? Denitra: Yes, Big Sister Paper Wait. I trust you and will follow everything you say. Mona moves down to LaShonda. Mona: Lashonda... LaShonda: Yes, Big Sister Paper Wait. I trust you and I will follow everything you say. Mona moves down to Tierra. Mona: Tierra... Silence Mona: Tierra.... Tierra (turning towards Denitra and LaShonda): I'm sorry ya'll.........I can't do this... ________________________________________________________________________________________ Over at the library, Kyle is there studying for an exam, when his cousin Kiaterria spots him from upstairs. Kiaterria: Hey Cuz! Kyle looks up from the table. Kyle: What's up big head. Kiaterria: What you studyin' for? Kyle: Psych. Kiaterria: Oh okay. Kyle: What you doin' up here? Kiaterria: I had to drop off some books. I was headed out and I saw my favorite cousin! Kyle: Oh I'm your favorite cousin? You must want somethin'. Kiaterria: Whatever! You are always my favorite cousin! Kiaterria sits down across from Kyle. Kiaterria: So what's been up? I haven't seen you much lately. Kyle: I guess not. Kiaterria: What is that supposed to mean? Kyle: It means you spend all your free time with that punk so you ain't got time for nobody else. Kiaterria: Okay first of all, do not call my boyfriend names. Secondly, I do not spend all my free time with Jeff. Kyle: Yeah, whatever. I still don't know what you see in that dude. Kiaterria: Well maybe if you actually spent some time to get to know him.... Kyle: Ehh, not gonna happen. Kiaterria: Kyle, why not? One dinner is all I'm asking, Me, you, Jeff, and Stasha. For me? Taylor what is it? Taylor: (sigh) Man problems! Laci: Oh goodness...you too? Taylor: What do you mean? You're having man problems? Laci: I guess you could say that. Taylor: I didn't even know you were datin' anyone. Laci: I'm not. I mean...I don't know. I'm kinda interested in this guy and I thought he was interested in me...but I don't really think so anymore. Taylor: Anyone I know? Laci: I don't know if you know him or not. Joriah... Taylor: The Nupe? Laci: Yeah, that's him. Taylor: Didn't he just break up with that girl, Denitra? Laci: Yeah. You know what? I don't even wanna talk about it. Tell me about your problem. Taylor: (sighs) Well.........I was sort of in a relationship with this guy and we broke up like a month ago because...I mean, we just had some problems. Anyway....he came by my place last week to try and get back with me but somebody else was here. I'm so stupid! Laci: Somebody else was here? Ok Taylor! Lil Playa! Taylor smiles: I know but it didn't mean anything. I just wish that whole night had never happened. Laci: Taylor, I ain't know you had a boyfriend. Taylor: That was part of the problem. Jeff makes me really happy and you are my favorite cousin. I would love if you two could at least get along. Kyle: Well that's too bad. It's not happenin'. Kiaterria: Can you at least think about it? Kyle: I guess. Kiaterria: So what's up with you and my soror? Kyle: What do you mean? Kiaterria: I heard Stasha finally let you get a lil bit.... Kyle: Who told you that? Kiaterria: She did! Dag! Why you so touchy. Kyle: Nothin'. I'm just tryin' to get some studyin' done. Kiaterria: So everything straight with you and Stash? Kyle: Yeah, we good. Nothin' has changed. Kiaterria: That's cool. Well....I guess I'll get goin'... Kyle: You know what.....stay with my stuff for a second while I run to the bathroom. Kiaterria: Alright. Kyle gets up and heads toward the back of the library. Kiaterria picks up his Psychology book and begins to flip through it. Kyle's cell phone begins to ring and Kiaterria glances down at his phone and sees that it is Karissa. Kiaterria thinks: That's weird. Why is Karissa calling Kyle? Kiaterria flips open Kyle's phone to answer and before she can say hello, Karissa begins to speak. Karissa: Hey Kyle. It's me. Are you alone?
