Season 1 - Episode 37

Our story resumes this week at Dashia's apartment, where Joriah has just arrived to pick her up for a date.

Dashia (opening door): Hi.....

Joriah: What's up girl. You are lookin' good!

Dashia (blushing): Thanks, Joriah. You don't look so bad yourself.

Joriah: Oh you know I keep it pretty!

Dashia: Pretty boys love pretty girls!

Joriah: You got that right! (laughing)

Dashia: You comin' in?

Joriah: Yeah, I guess so. We got a few minutes before the movie.

Joriah walks into Dashia's apartment and sits on the couch.

Dashia: You want somethin' to drink?

Joriah: Nah, I'm straight. Thanks.

Dashia: So how things been goin'?

Joriah: Ehh everything is alright. You know how it is. Greek life...

Dashia: Yeah. Busy!

Joriah: Right!

Dashia: You know we bout to take a line?

Joriah: Yeah I heard. That's what's up.

Dashia: Yeah, I'm excited. I think it's gonna be a good group. I know my neo's are ready to be prophytes.

Joriah: Um yeah.....I can definitely relate to that!

Dashia: That's right! I forget you are a neo sometimes! I don't know how, though. You wear Kappa stuff every day of the week. Just like a neo!

Joriah: Whatever! I'm just showing my Kappa pride, that's all.

Dashia: Yeah, well why don't you show that Kappa pride out the door before we are late for the movie?

Joriah: Alright, I'm ready. Let's go.

Across campus at the Jewel house, Joi and Patrick are talking downstairs.

Joi: You know, Patrick, we really still need to finish our conversation from that day at the diner. This thing is not goin' away. Don't you want to know the truth? Don't you think we owe it to ourselves to know?

Jovan: To know what?

Joi and Patrick look up to find Jovan standing in the doorway.

Silence

Joi: Oh hi honey!

Patrick: What's up Jovan.

Jovan: Hey. So uh....what were you two talking about?

Joi: Oh nothin' really.

Jovan: Doesn't seem like nothin'. You actually seem pretty upset. So again...what is goin' on?

Patrick: Joi was just uh....helpin' me figure something out with Krys.

Jovan: Krystalyn?

Patrick: Yeah, man. Me and Krys havin' some problems.

Jovan: Oh yeah?

Patrick: Yep.

Jovan stares at Patrick in silence.  He looks over at Joi, who quickly averts her eyes to the floor.

Brian: Pat, I got that form for ya.

Patrick: Thanks, man.

Brian hands the papers over to Patrick.

Patrick: Alright then, I guess I'll be out. I'll see ya'll later. Joi, thanks for the advice. Good to see you again.

Joi: Mmm hmm. No problem.

Patrick heads out the door and closes it behind him.

Jovan: Joi....is everything okay?

Joi: Yeah, everything is fine.

Brian: J, I don't wanna break up the conversation or anything, but um...it's almost that time.

Jovan: What?

Brian: You know...it's almost that time.

Jovan looks down at his watch.

Jovan: Oh right! Dag. Joi, I got somethin' I gotta do tonight, so I guess I'm gonna have to cut this short.

Joi: I understand.....I love you.

Jovan: Love you too, baby.

Joi gets up and gathers her things to leave, as Jovan runs upstairs to change.

Scene 1 Continued...

In the car, Joriah and Dashia drive towards the theater.

Joriah: I heard this movie is real hype.

Dashia: Me too. I'm excited. Camille went to see it last weekend and she said it was real good.

Joriah: Who is Camille messin' with?

Dashia: Nobody right now.

Joriah: Oh well that explains it.

Dashia: Explains what?

Joriah: Why she is always actin' so evil!

Dashia (laughing): Joriah you are so wrong! Don't talk about my line sister like that!

Joriah: I'm sorry, I'm just speakin' the truth! You know you was thinkin' it!

Dashia (laughing harder): Boy, you are crazy!

Joriah: How she get to be the president of the chapter anyway? I thought it would be you.

Dashia: Yeah, me too...

Silence

Dashia: So um....have you heard from  Denitra?

Joriah: Nope. And why you bringin' that girl up?

Dashia: Because I'm not tryin' to get involved with you like that if you still got somethin' for Denitra.

Joriah: Dashia, I told you before, it's over with me and Nitra.  What we had........it was good, but it's over. I don't know. I guess we have just grown apart.

Dashia: Do you miss her?

Joriah: No. Yes. I don't know. I mean...we were friends so yeah, I miss that. But other than that, I'm good. Besides, I got my eye on this pretty lil AKA.....

Dashia: Oh really?

Joriah: Yes, really.

Dashia: And who, might I ask is that pretty lil AKA you have your eye on?

Joriah: Camille.

Dashia: What!

Joriah starts laughing. Dashia laughs too and playfully hits him as they park the car at the theater.  Joriah gets out the car and walks around to open the car door for Dashia.  Just as he is opening the door, his cell phone rings.

Joriah looks down at his phone and sees that it is Denitra calling.  He presses ignore and opens the door for Dashia.  As they approach the ticket booth, his phone begins to ring again.  He looks to see it is Denitra calling again.  He looks up and sees Dashia staring at him.

Dashia: Who's that?

Off campus, we join Sheena and Natalie in their apartment.

Sheena: Hey Nat...how ya feelin'?

Natalie: Better today, thanks.

Sheena: That's good. Did you take your medicine?

Natalie: Actually, I didn't need it today. I didn't have any pain, really.

Sheena: That's great, soror! Have you heard from Nate?

Natalie: Not really, Sheena. I'm sorry. I think him and Laray and tryin' to work things out.

Sheena: Are you for real?

Natalie: Yeah.

Sheena: That girl is a liar and a thief! What does he see in her?

Natalie: Girl, I don't even know.

Sheena: I would be so much better for him.

Natalie: I think so, too.

Sheena: You need to talk to your brother.

Natalie: I tried, Sheen! But you know Nate don't listen to me like that.

Silence

Sheena: I'm hungry.

Natalie: Yeah, me too.

Sheena: I'm not cookin'.

Natalie: I'm not either. I'm injured.

Sheena: I thought you said you felt better!

Natalie: I do but I'm still not cookin'!

Sheena (laughing): Come on, let's go to the diner.

Natalie: Okay, cool.

Scene 2 Continued..

Jovan dials Nathaniel's cell phone.

Nate: A-Phi!

Jovan: 06!

Nate: Sup frat?

Jovan: Where you at?

Nate: I'm over at Laray's room.

Jovan: You forget about tonight?

Nate: Oh! Yeah, I did. I"m sorry, frat. You know I have so much on my mind today.

Jovan: No doubt. Want me and Brian to swing by and pick you up?

Nate: Nah, I'm good. I'll see you at the spot.

Jovan: Cool.

Jovan hangs up. Jovan and Brian get into the car and begin to drive.

Brian: So what's up, frat. I don't really get to talk to you that much anymore.

Jovan: I know, man. I been so busy lately. With class....and with my little baby on the way.

Silence

Brian: Oh um, yeah.

Jovan: How's the diversity step coming?

Brian: It's alright, I guess. I'll just be glad when it's over!

Jovan: I know, right! It's hard being the chair for that event.  Plus you interning down at the clinic now, right?

Brian: Yeah.

Jovan: I bet you see all type of people from Ahpla up there, don't you?

Brian: Yeah, somethin' like.

Silence

Brian: Oh hey, I did get them to agree to come and do our AIDS drive on campus.

Jovan: Oh cool. I'll make sure I call the Student Activities office on Monday and get on the calendar.

Silence

Jovan: Man, Brian, I am so excited about this baby! Just wait until you become a father and you'll know what I'm talkin' about. I don't even know if I want a boy or a girl. I mean I think it would be so cool to have a lil frat, but a lil girl that looks like Joi would be cool, too. That's my baby right there. I'm gonna make her my wife.

Brian: For real?

Jovan: Yeah. Don't tell anybody but I been lookin' at rings.

Brian: Rings?

Jovan: Yeah, man. I wanna do right by Joi and our baby.

Silence

Brian: Jovan. You know how you were sayin' I probably see a lot of people up at the clinic from Ahpla?

Jovan: Yeah...

Silence

Brian hesitates.

Brian: I...well I...

Jovan: I see they are on time. Very good. 

Brian looks up and sees a line of guys standing up against the wall in black pants and black sweatshirt hoodies.

Jovan: Being late for the first night of line would be a very bad thing....

Scene 3 Continued..

Hostess: How many?

Sheena: Two, please.

Hostess: Right this way.

Natalie and Sheena follow the hostess to the table.

Hostess: Your server will be right with you.

Natalie: Thanks.

Sheena: I think you'll like this place, soror.

Natalie: I hope so!

Sheena: The diner was packed! I was not tryin' to wait!

Natalie: Yeah, I know right. How did you find this place anyway?

Sheena: One day, I was just drivin' around and kinda rolled up on it on accident. The food is really good and it's cheap, too.

Natalie: Good! Cause you know a sista is broke!

Sheena: Me too, soror!

Natalie: So what's good here?

Sheena: Um, everything really. I mean, what are you in the mood for?

Natalie: Hmm.......well how is the chicken....

Sheena: What the....

Natalie looks up to find Sheena starring out of the window. Natalie turns to see what Sheena is looking at.

Natalie: Sheena, you okay?

Sheena: I think so but....

Natalie: Sheena, what's wrong?

Sheena: That coffee shop across the street.

Natalie turns back to look at it.

Natalie: Yeah....

Sheena: I think that's my dad's car outside of it. But wha......what would he be doin' out here?
