Season 1 - Episode 42

We resume our episode this week at Kiaterria's apartment, where she is preparing to have dinner with Jeff, Stasha, and Kyle.

Kiaterria: Sweetie, can you help me in here for a second?

Jeff: Huh?

Kiaterria: I said, could you come in here for a sec?

Jeff walks into the kitchen, where Kiaterria is setting the table.

Jeff: What's up?

Kiaterria: Can you get the big serving bowl down for me? I can't reach it.

Jeff: Then how did it get up there?

Kiaterria: Whatever! Can you just get it, please!

Jeff laughs and goes into the cabinet to get the bowl.

Jeff: So what time is your cousin gettin' here?

Kiaterria: Do you have to say it like that, Jeff? Please be nice. You know it's important to me that you two start gettin' along.

Jeff pulls Kiaterria close to him.

Jeff: Well you need to talk to your cousin.

Kiaterria: Oh trust me, I gave him the same talk!

Jeff: Your cousin just don't like me, Tee The sooner you realize that, the better.

Kiaterria: I refuse to believe you two can't get along at all.

Jeff: I don't even know how you talked him into this dinner.

Kiaterria: I have my ways....

Jeff: Oh yeah right. You must have blackmailed him into it.

Kiaterria: What? What do you mean? What would make you say a thing like that?

Jeff: Nothin', girl. I was just playin'. You got any bottled water?

Kiaterria: Yeah, it's in the fridge.

Jeff: Cool. I need to take my medicine.

Kiaterria: What medicine? That prescription for your knee?

Jeff: Yeah.

Jeff takes a bottle of water out of the refrigerator and swallows two pills and shoves the bottle back into his pants pocket.

Kiaterria: I thought you were done with that. I didn't know you were still havin' pain.

Jeff: Um, yeah. A little.

Kiaterria: But......how long are you supposed to take that? You're not takin' more than the dose, right?

Jeff: Naw girl. I'm alright.

Kiaterria: But.....have you told the trainers......I don't know Jeff.....it's been months now.....just seems like....

The doorbell rings.

Jeff: Looks like our guests have arrived!

Jeff takes off out of the kitchen towards the front door.

Over at the diner, Karissa has just met up with her boyfriend, Shakir for dinner.

Karissa: Hey.

Shakir: What's up baby!

Karissa: Did you already order?

Shakir: Just a drink. I wanted to wait for you.

Karissa: I'm not really hungry.

Shakir: Baby, what's wrong?

Karissa: Nothin'.

Shakir: You sure?

Karissa: Yeah. I don't know. Nothin' worth talkin' about right now.

Shakir: So what's up sweetie? How you been?

Karissa: Okay, I guess. You?

Shakir: I'm alright....just missin' my girl.

Karissa: Oh really?

Shakir: Yes, really! Even though you ain't givin' me none!

Karissa: And you already know why.

Shakir: I do?

Karissa: Shakir, can we please not go there tonight? You know as well as I do that you been messin' around behind my back. And I told you before, until you stopped it and I know for sure, I am not goin' there with you!

Scene 1 Continued...

Kiaterria: But.....have you told the trainers......I don't know Jeff.....it's been months now.....just seems like....

The doorbell rings.

Jeff: Looks like our guests have arrived!

Jeff takes off out of the kitchen towards the front door. KIaterria follows him around the corner to see Stasha and Kyle coming into the door.

Kiaterria: Hi you two!

Stasha: Hey soror!

Kyle: What's up, cuz.

Kiaterria: Well take your coats off and make yourselves at home! Dinner is almost done.

Stasha: Tee, is there anything I can help you with?

Kiaterria: Um, sure.

Kiaterria turns to Kyle and Jeff.

Kiaterria: Can you two play nicely for awhile?

Jeff looks away and Kyle goes and sits down on the couch.

Kiaterria: Okay....

Kiaterria and Stasha turn and walk towards the kitchen.

Jeff: So what's been up Kyle?

Kyle: Nothin'.

Jeff: Classes goin' alright?

Kyle: Yep.

Jeff: You and Stasha got any spring break plans?

Kyle: Nope.

Silence

Jeff: Look, Kyle. I'm tryin' here. I know I don't wanna have to do this as much as you. But we're here so we might as well try to make the best of it.

Kyle: I guess.

Jeff: So you been workin' out?

Kyle: What is that supposed to mean?

Jeff: Nothin'. I was just askin' if you still been workin' out during off season.

Kyle: Have you?

Jeff: I been tryin', but you know my knees been givin' me problems, so not as much as I would like to.

Kyle: Yeah, whateva.

Kiaterria yells from the kitchen.

Kiaterria: Come on guys! Dinner is ready!

Kyle and Jeff get up and walk towards the kitchen.

Jeff: Hey you know what.....I'm gonna wash my hands. I'll be there in a sec.

Kyle: Aight.

Jeff goes to the bathroom and closes the door. He takes out his prescription pill bottle and takes out two more pills. He swallows them quickly before opening the door and returning down the hall.

Off campus at the Planned Parenthood Clinic, Brian is finishing up his shift.

Brian: Tim, I'm really excited that the clinic is goin' to participate in my fraternity's health fair.

Tim: Oh it's no problem, Brian! Anything we can do to help out!

Brian: Yeah, I really think we're gonna have a great turnout.

Tim: Good! So let me ask you, Brian, how are things workin' out for you around here? Is it what you expected?

Brian: Um, I guess so. I don't think I really had any expectations. But overall, I'm learnin' a lot. It's been a great experience so far.

Tim: Wonderful. That's what I like to hear. You know if you ever have any problems or concerns, you can always come to me.

Brian: Oh I know. I guess I better get up front. Johnice left a list of things for me to do before I go.

Tim: I'm sure she did! She's quite the task master!

Tim and Brian both laugh as Brian walks back up front. Brian picks up the list of things Johnice has left to be sure he has finished everything. Right before he logs off, he realizes he has forgotten to call the clients for the following day to remind them of their appointments. He begins calling and leaving messages and then gets to one appointment that stops him dead in his tracks.

1:00: Joi Cunningham. Paternity Counseling

Brian gets up and walks back towards Tim's office.

Brian: Hey Tim...

Tim: Yes, Brian, what is it?

Brian: You know how you said I could ask you any questions I may have...

Tim: Oh sure! You thought of one?

Brian: Um, sort of.

Tim: Well come in! What is it?

Brian: I see down in the book that there is a patient listed for tomorrow for paternity counseling.

Tim: Okay...

Brian: I guess I'm confused. What does that mean exactly?

Tim: Well.......any time a mother is having some questions about the possible paternity of the father, we offer a free paternity counseling service. And basically what we do is we go over different options for paternity testing, and also we work with the mother in terms of alerting the possible fathers of the situation. A lot of times the fathers in question are unaware and so we try to coach the mother through the process of informing all parties involved.

Brian: I see.

Tim: Did that clear it up for you?

Brian: Oh yeah. It's very clear now. Crystal clear....

Scene 2 Continued...

Karissa: Shakir, can we please not go there tonight? You know as well as I do that you been messin' around behind my back. And I told you before, until you stopped it and I know for sure, I am not goin' there with you!

Shakir: Come on, girl. I told you a long time ago, I stopped all that.

Karissa: Oh yeah? Well my sorors at Amgis been tellin' me somethin' different.

Shakir: I told you about listenin' to those jealous girls, didn't I?

Karissa: Jealous of what?

Shakir: Of us!

Karissa: Of a man that cheats on me? I don't even know why I'm still with you for real, Shakir.

Shakir: Yes you do. You with me because you love me and you know that I love you. Girl I plan to make you my wife.

Karissa: Then you need to stop messin' around on me, Shakir! I mean it.

Shakir: I'm tryin' baby, I really am. I know I messed up in the past. But I really been tryin' to do right by you this time.

Karissa: Do you mean it?

Shakir: Yeah, I do. I really love you, girl. We all mistakes.

Karissa: Yeah, I know. It just hurts, Shakir. I hate lookin' stupid and havin' all these people runnin' back and tellin' me stuff about you.

Shakir: I'm sorry. I love you, Karissa. I swear I'm gonna change.

Silence

Shakir: Why don't you let me make it up to you?

Karissa: How?

Shakir: What do you want?

Karissa: Hmm........well you can start by takin' me shoppin' on Saturday.

Shakir: Done. What else?

Karissa: I need my nails done.

Shakir: Okay. Anything else?

Karissa: I don't know. Let me think about it.

Shakir: Okay, cool. And uh.....while you thinkin'.......why don't you let me really make it up to you?

Karissa: And how do you plan to do that?

Shakir: Well.....if you come back to my room with me, I can show you better than I can tell you...

Scene 3 Continued...

Outside the clinic, Lashonda pulls up to pick Brian up from his internship at the Planned Parenthood.

Brian (Getting into the car): Hey baby, what's up.

Brian leans over and gives Lashonda a hug and a kiss.

Lashonda: Hey sweetie! How was work?

Brian: Interesting...

Lashonda: Oh yeah? How so?

Brian: I don't know if I should say anything.

Lashonda: About what? Baby, you know you can trust me.

Brian: I know. But you know all that stuff is confidential so I can't really just put it out there like that.

Lashonda: Oh yeah...

Brian: Let's see........let me ask you a question....if someone close to you was in trouble or possibly in trouble....would you tell them, even if you knew it would hurt their feelings a lot?

Lashonda: Brian, is this about me bein' on line? What do you know?

Brian: Huh?

Lashonda: The AKA line. You know somethin' don't you?

Brian: Girl, what are you talkin' about? The only thing I know is that the sorors are gettin' ready to bring in some new people. I think they was havin' problems gettin' it approved or whatever, but PJ straightened it out.

Lashonda: Really? Oh that's such a relief! I can't wait to tell Denitra. I know she was gettin' worried.

Brian: Dag, I can't believe my baby is pledgin'!

Lashonda: I know!

Brian: You told your mama yet?

Lashonda: No. I told my dad. My mom is gonna flip when she finds out I'm not pledgin' Delta.

Brian: Ehh she'll be aight. Just get your godmoms to call her.

Lashonda: Yeah, I haven't told Auntie Melinda yet. I need to do that first thing on Monday...anyway...what are you talkin' about hurtin' someone close to you?

Brian: Never mind. It's no big deal. Besides, we pullin' up to the house now.

As Lashonda and Brian pull up to the house, Jovan is walking out the front door. Brian gets out of the car quickly.

Brian: Hey Jovan!

Jovan: A-Phi!

Brian: 00000000-6!

Jovan: What's up frat?

Brian: Uh, I need to talk to you but it looks like you are leavin'.

Jovan: Yeah man, the Zeta's are throwin' a baby shower for Joi. I'm already late. Can it wait until later?

Brian: Well, actually, no it can't. It's about Joi and the baby....
