Season 1 - Episode 46

We resume our episode this week with Laci and Kashawn at the coffee shop.

Kashawn: My bad. I ain't mean nothin' by it. You real cool, though, Laci. So what's a girl like you doin' single?

Laci: I don't know. I guess I just ain't found the right one.

Kashawn lightly places his hand on top of Laci's

Kashawn: Or maybe the right one just ain't found you yet....

Laci smiles nervously and then pulls her hand away.

Kashawn: I'm sorry, Laci. I ain't mean to offend you...

Laci: No, no. You didn't offend me. It's just.....Taylor is my friend. I don't want to hurt her.

Kashawn: I ain't mean nothin' by it, Laci. I was just sayin' I don't know why you single cause you seem like a real cool girl. That's all...

Silence

Kashawn: Did I make you uncomfortable? You seem quiet, now.

Laci: I'm fine. I just uh...I gotta go, that's all.

Kashawn: Laci, wait....don't go. We were havin' a great conversation. I'm sorry if I ruined it.

Silence

Kashawn: Please? You're the best company I've had all day.

Laci: Well........okay. But just for a few minutes and then I really gotta run.

Kashawn: I understand....

Laci cell phone rings. She fumbles around in her purse to find it. By the time she finds her phone, it has gone to voicemail.

Laci: Oh....it was Taylor....

Off campus, Joseph Davenport has just left his home and is riding around in his car. He takes out his cell phone and dials Melinda's number.

Voicemail: You've reached the Voicemail of Melinda Ferguson. Please leave a message.

Joseph: Melinda. Hey....it's Joe. Listen, call me as soon as you get....

The phone beeps and Joseph looks and sees that it is Melinda calling him back. He clicks over.

Joseph: Hey Linda. I was just leavin' you a message.

Melinda: Oh sorry. I was sleepin'. What time is it?

Joseph: It's late.

Melinda: What are you doin' up so late? Where are you?

Joseph: In my car.

Melinda: At this hour? Joe, what's wrong?

Joseph: I think I'd rather talk about it in person. Is it okay for me to come over?

Melinda: To my house?

Joseph: Yeah.

Melinda: Do you think that's a good idea?

Joseph: I don't know.

Melinda: Joe, you don't sound too good.

Joseph: I just really need to talk to you.

Melinda: Want me to meet you out at the park?

Joseph: Yeah. Thanks, Linda.

Melinda: Okay. I'll be there in about 20 minutes.

Joseph: Okay. I'll see you soon...

Scene 1 Continued...

Laci cell phone rings. She fumbles around in her purse to find it. By the time she finds her phone, it has gone to voicemail.

Laci: Oh....it was Taylor....

Kashawn: Should you call her back?

Laci: Ehh, she probably didn't want anything. But you know, I think I better run.

Kashawn: So soon?

Laci: Yeah, I think so.

Kashawn: Want me to walk you back to the dorm?

Laci: No you don't have to go out of your way.

Kashawn: It's not out of my way. I was about to leave when you got here, anyway.

Laci: Well, okay.

Laci and Kashawn gather their things and begin to walk back towards Laci's dorm.

Kashawn: So like I was sayin' in there.....why aren't you datin' anybody?

Laci: Oh I don't know. Seems like I always get caught up with the wrong kinda guys. And there was somebody I kinda liked but he's datin' someone now.

Kashawn: Did you tell him how you felt?

Laci: No. What difference would have that have made?

Kashawn: A big difference, Laci. Men are not mind readers. We need to know these things.

Laci: Okay well Taylor told you how she felt and it didn't make a difference with ya'll. So again, what difference would it make for me to tell him?

Kashawn: Okay but Taylor and I are not a good example. By the time she told me, everything was all messed up between us.....even though....

Laci: Even though what?

Kashawn: Even though I still love her...

Laci: Kashawn, stop for a minute.

Kashawn stops and faces Laci.

Laci: Are you absolutely sure that you can't work this thing out with Taylor? Do you really feel like you are over her?

Kashawn: I don't know if I"m over her or not. I guess there's one way I could find out.

Laci: What's that?

Kashawn leans in and grabs Laci close to him and begins to kiss her....

Back on campus at the Omega Psi Phi house, Kyle and Karissa are just waking up.

Karissa: As usual....that was amazing...

Kyle smiles

Kyle: Thanks.

Karissa: Last time right?

Kyle: Last time.

Silence

Kyle: So you and Shakir really worked things out?

Karissa: I guess. I mean....he's really been actin' better lately.

Kyle: Yeah, and how long is that gonna last?

Karissa: Thanks for the support, Kyle.

Kyle: What? I mean I'm not tryin' to upset you. I'm just tryin' to be realistic here. Shakir is a dog and you know it.

Karissa: I guess it takes one to know one.

Kyle: Are you for real? Last time I checked, I wasn't layin' up here by myself. It takes two, remember?

Karissa: Yeah, I remember. I also remember why I was gonna stop dealin' with you. Because you are a arrogant jerk!

Kyle: You know I actually was in the middle of somethin' with you got here.

Karissa: What is that supposed to mean? You tellin' me to get out?

Kyle: I'm tellin' you I was busy doin' somethin' and I think it's about time I got back to it.

Karissa: No problem, Kyle. Just give me five minutes and I will be completely out of your way.

Karissa jumps up and begins to dress quickly while Kyle lays there.

Scene 2 Continued..

At the park, Melinda arrives and finds Joseph sitting alone in his car. She gets out of his car and goes over and gets into his passenger side.

Melinda: Hey Joe.

Joseph: Hey baby.

Joseph leans over to give Melinda a hug and a quick kiss on the cheek.

Melinda: So what's up? Why are you out so late? What's wrong?

Joseph: Linda. Carsen knows everything.

Melinda: What? Are you sure?

Joseph points to the backseat. Melinda turns to see a small suitcase sitting in the seat.

Melinda: Oh no! How?

Joseph: She saw us tonight having dinner.

Silence

Melinda bursts into tears. Joseph grabs Melinda by the hand.

Joseph: Baby, why are you crying? Don't you know what this means? It means we can finally be together.

Melinda: Are you serious? That's the only thing you can think of? Us being together?

Joseph: Well yeah. I mean what else is there to think about? I mean obviously I didn't want her to find out this way. It's an unpleasant situation for everyone. But honestly Linda, I kinda feel better. It was getting so hard to live this lie. I finally feel like a weight has been lifted now that this is finally out in the open.

Melinda: Joseph! I am the President of Ahpla University and Carsen is the President of the Parent's Council. This is not a weight lifted or a good thing! This could be a horrible situation!

Joseph: Melinda, it's not gonna come to that. That is professional and this is personal. I don't think Carsen would do that.

Melinda: Joseph, give me a break.

Joseph: Well, let's just go to your house and get some rest and we'll try to sort this thing out in the morning.

Melinda: My house?

Joseph: Yeah....I mean where else am I gonna stay? Carsen put me out.

Melinda: I'm sorry, Joe but you cannot come to my house....I live far too close to campus.

Joseph: But.....Linda?

Melinda: No, Joe. You just can't. As a matter of fact, I think we might need some space....

Joseph: Space?

Melinda: Look, Joe. I don't know what's about to happen and you being around is just going to further complicate things. I am so stupid! I know better than to get involved with a married man. I should have just let the past be the past.

Joseph: But Linda, I left my wife for you. And now you're tellin' me you don't want me around?

Melinda: I'm sorry, Joe......I'll call you when I'm ready....I'm...I'm sorry.....

Melinda gets out of the car and leaves Joseph sitting alone....

Scene 3 Continued...

Karissa jumps up and begins to dress quickly while Kyle lays there.

Karissa: You know what Kyle? You are really a piece of work.

Kyle: Yeah, whatever. You know the way out, right?

Karissa: Absolutely!

Karissa storms down the stairs and hears Kyle's cell phone ringing. She considers going upstairs to tell him but changes her mind and continues out the door. As she gets to the bottom of the stairs, she looks up to see Stasha coming up the walkway.

Stasha: Soror?

Karissa: Oh um, hey Stash.

Stasha: What are you doin' here?

Karissa: Huh?

Stasha: I said what are you doin' here?

Karissa: Oh um........I had to uh see Kyle about somethin'.

Stasha: How long have you been here? I've been callin' him and he wouldn't answer his phone. He was supposed to come over hours ago!

Karissa: Oh....I'm not sure why. Um, not long. Just had to drop somethin' off for class.

Stasha: I didn't know you had a class with Kyle.

Karissa: Um, yeah.

Stasha: You never told me that before.

Silence

Karissa: Well uh, hey.........I gotta run. I'll see you later.

Stasha: Okay, soror! See ya later.

Stasha turns and heads back towards the door. She rings the doorbell and no one answers.

Stasha thinks: That's strange. I know he's here..

Stasha rings the doorbell again and hears someone running down the stairs. Kyle furiously fling the door open. He is dressed in basketball shorts and nothing else. Stasha looks him up and down before she leans in to give him a hug.

Stasha: Hi baby! I was worried. You said you were comin' over hours ago!

Kyle: Oh yeah, I know. I fell asleep. My bad.

Stasha: Where is your phone? I've been callin' you!

Kyle: Yeah, I don't know. Probably downstairs.

Stasha looks him up and down again.

Stasha: This is how you dress for company now?

Kyle: What company? I told you I was upstairs asleep.

Stasha: So no one came over? At all?

Kyle: Nope. I been by myself all afternoon.....
