Season 1 - Episode 48 We resume our episode this week on campus, Kyle has left the Health Fair and has gone over to Stasha's room. Stasha (opening door): Oh. Kyle....hi... Kyle: Hey baby. Stasha: I'm surprised to see you here. Kyle: I know. Do you mind if I come in? Stasha: No, not at all. Come on in. Stasha moves to the side to let Kyle walk past her. Instead, he stops and hugs her to him tightly before walking into the room and sitting down on the bed. Stasha walks in behind him and sits down at her desk. Kyle: Are you still mad at me? Stasha: No. I don't know. Kyle, why did you lie to me? Kyle: I don't know. I wasn't thinkin'. Stasha: Why lie to me about Karissa bein' over there? I know nothin' would ever happen with you guys. She's my line sister and I know she'd never do that to me. I trust her with my life. Kyle: You're right.....I was wrong to lie to you. I'm sorry. Silence Kyle: You forgive me? Stasha: I guess. But I'm still mad at you, Kyle! You know I hate when people lie to me. Kyle: I know! And I said I was sorry! What can I do to make it up to you? Stasha: Hmm......let me see......I guess you could...... Just as Stasha is speaking, the doorknob turns and Kyle and Stasha look up to find Karissa and Shakir coming into the room.... __________________________________________________________________________________________ On campus, Denitra and LaShonda are in Denitra's room, making AKA gifts in preparation for their crossing. LaShonda: Nitra, I can't believe this is really happenin'! Denitra: I know girl! Me either! Now hand me that glue! Lashonda hands a glue gun to Denitra. Lashonda: So........I finally told my mom I was pledgin'. Denitra: What? You did? When? Lashonda: Last Night. Denitra: And how did that go? Lashonda: It didn't.... Denitra: Really? Did she trip? Lashonda: No. I mean....it's not that she's upset I didn't want to be a Delta........it's just.....I think she was mad I didn't tell her before. Denitra: Oh yeah.......I could see that..... Lashonda: She said she would send me some gifts when we finish, though! Denitra: Well she better get ready to go shoppin', cause we are almost there girl! Lashonda: I know.......soror! Denitra: Girl! Shh!!! Do you know how much trouble we could get in if somebody heard you sayin' that? Lashonda: I know! I just wanted to test it out and see how it sounds! Denitra starts to laugh as her cell phone begins to ring. She looks down to see that it is Mona calling. Denitra: Oh no. It's Big Sister.... Lashonda: Well hurry! Pick up! Denitra: Hello? Mona: Ivy! Denitra: Hello Big Sister Paper Wait! Mona: Where is your line sister? Denitra: She's here with me now! Mona: Good. I want to see you two at my apartment. Now! __________________________________________________________________________________________Scene 1 Continued... Kyle: I know! And I said I was sorry! What can I do to make it up to you? Stasha: Hmm......let me see......I guess you could...... Just as Stasha is speaking, the doorknob turns and Kyle and Stasha look up to find Karissa and Shakir coming into the room.... Stasha: Hey soror! Hey Shakir! Karissa looks back and forth between Stasha and Kyle before answering. Karissa: Oh um.....hey...... Shakir: What's up Karissa. Stasha: What are ya'll up to? Karissa: Oh nothin'. Just comin' from the health fair. Thought we'd come by the room on the way to dinner. Karissa looks over at Kyle who is starring down at the floor. Karissa: Hello to you too, Kyle! Kyle looks up. Kyle: Oh what's up. Sup Shakir. Shakir nods his head. Shakir: Karissa, I'll wait for you in the hall. Karissa: Okay, cool. Just give me a few minutes to change and I'll be right out. Kyle: Oh. I guess that means I should step out for a few minutes. Karissa: That would be nice! Kyle gets up and walks towards the door. Karissa:Thanks! I'll just be a minute. Karissa closes the door behind them. Shakir and Kyle stand against the wall opposite of each other in silence. Shakir: So uh......you playin' next season, man? Kyle: Yeah. Shakir: That's cool....... Silence Shakir: You think we got a pretty good chance of goin' to the championship? Kyle: Not sure. Silence Shakir: So uh.... Kyle (interrupting him): You know what? We ain't even gotta really have small talk. We can really just stand here in silence if that's alright with you. Shakir(getting loud): Ehh man, what's your problem with me? I don't even know you! Just then the door opens and Karissa and Stasha come out. Karissa: Guess what honey? Shakir: What's up babe? Karissa: Kyle and Stasha are comin' out to dinner with us! Kyle looks over at Stasha. Stasha smiles at Kyle gently. Stasha: Is that okay, honey? I thought it would be fun. Before Kyle can answer, Stasha grabs Kyle by the arm and begins to lead him out of her dorm towards the parking lot. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Off campus, at the home of Melinda Ferguson, who is working in her home office, when the phone rings. Melinda gets up to answer the phone and sees that it is her lifelong friend and college roommate, Valerie Edwards. Melinda: Hey Diva! Valerie: Hey Pretty Girl! Melinda: What are you up to? Valerie: Not much....what about you? Melinda: Just trying to get some work done at home. You know me.....always working... Valerie: Some things never change.... Silence Valerie: Melinda.... Melinda: Val, don't even say it... Valerie: Carsen called me last night. Melinda: I told you not to say it, Val. Valerie: Melinda. I thought you had ended that mess with Joe when I came for homecoming! Melinda: I thought so, too. Silence Melinda: I guess you're mad at me. Valerie: Of course I'm not mad at you. I'm your friend and I love you. I'm disappointed, yes. But angry....no. What in the world is going on with you? I thought you and Clyde were going to try and work things out. Melinda: We were. I mean....we did.....try, that is. But the fact is.........our marriage was over a long time ago. So we decided it was best to go through with the divorce. And as far as Joe is concerned, I really had broken it off, Val. And then all of a sudden, we were back to doing the same thing. I just......I didn't know how to stop. Valerie: Why didn't you call me? Melinda: Because I was ashamed and I didn't want you to hate me. Valerie: Linda, you are my best friend. I could never hate you. We all make mistakes. That's why we have friends....to help pull us out of our mess when we can't. Melinda: Yeah, I know....I'm sorry. I should have told you. Valerie: No apology necessary. I just want to make sure you know that you can always come to me and talk to me about anything. No matter how bad you think it might be. Melinda: Thanks, Val. I love you. Valerie: I love you, too. So now what's up with Joe? Carsen told me she put him out. He's not staying with you, is he? Melinda: Oh no! Of course not! I told him I needed some space. He's been calling but I won't take his calls and I haven't called him back. I just can't deal with this right now. Valerie: Well that's why I was calling you, too. You may have to deal with this thing sooner than you thought. Melinda: What do you mean? Valerie: Linda, Carsen is really upset. And she's determined to make sure you pay.... __________________________________________________________________________________________ Scene 2 Continued... Over at Mona's apartment, Denitra and Lashonda have just arrived. Mona (swings open the door): Ivies! Get in here! Denitra and Lashonda walk past Mona into the apartment and stand together in a straight line. Denitra: Hello Big Sister Paper Wait! Lashonda: Hello Big Sister Paper Wait! Mona: Hello Ivies. I have some good news. The end of journey into the world of Alpha Kappa Alpha is rapidly coming to a close. Soon, you will join the ranks of women who are blessed to wear the rose pink and lime green. Tonight, I have invited you here because it's time for you to start learning the steps for your probate show. Denitra and Lashonda began to smile in excitement. Mona: Alright, so tonight is going to be a little more casual than normal. You two can relax and pay attention as I show you all the steps and teach you the chants. Let's start with a chant. Listen closely....... We are the first black greek sorority..........we were 19 pearls.........not 9 or 3..........so if you see us with our heads held high or with our noses high up in the sky.....it is because...........this is a Serious Situation! Lashonda: I thought the AKA's said serious matter.... Denitra: (shrugging shoulders): I don't know. Maybe it changed? Mona: Ivies! What are you over there whispering about? Denitra and Lashonda: Nothing, Big Sister Paper Wait! Mona: You better pay attention to me! I don't have time to do this all night long. Now! You try it. Repeat after me.......we are the first black greek sorority......... Denitra and Lashonda: We are the first black greek sorority......... Mona: We wear 19 pearls, not 9 or 3........ Denitra: Um, Big Sister Paper Wait..........the history book says that we have 20 founders.......so it seems like 19 pearls would be wro..... Mona: Silence! How dare you try to correct me! I'm already a member of this illustrious organization and you're still tryin' to get there! Denitra: Yes, Big Sister. I'm sorry... Mona: Any more questions? Anything else you want to correct me on, since you seem to know it all? Denitra: No, big sister. I'm sorry. Mona: Lashonda? Lashonda: No, big sister. Mona: Good. Now........back to the chant.......we have to get this tonight ladies, we don't have much time. Your introduction to the rest of the campus is coming sooner than you know.... __________________________________________________________________________________________ Scene 3 Continued.... We rejoin Melinda Ferguson, who is having a conversation with her best friend, Valerie Edwards. Just as Valerie and Melinda's conversation begins to heat up, Melinda's doorbell rings. Melinda: Val, someone is at the door. I'll have to call you back later. Valerie: Okay, but don't forget because I need to finish telling you about my conversation with Carsen. Melinda: I won't forget. I'll call you soon, I promise. Valerie: Love ya girl. Melinda: Love you, too. Melinda hangs up the phone and runs to open the door and is surprised to find Carsen on the other side. Melinda (slightly gasps): Carsen.... Carsen: Melinda. Melinda: Oh Carsen, you know I was actually on call....this isn't a good time.,, Carsen: Well, make it a good time. Silence Carsen: Look, Melinda, you already know what this is about. You can either let me in and we can talk inside or you can not let me in and we can talk out here.... and then the entire neighborhood can know that you've been screwing my husband. Which would you prefer? Melinda steps to the side to let Carsen walk past her into the house. Melinda closes the door behind her. Melinda: Would you like to have a seat? Carsen: You can cut the polite act. I didn't come here for a social call. Melinda: Okay.... Carsen: What kind of woman sleeps with a married man? Silence Carsen: That wasn't a rhetorical question. I need some answers. And seeing as how you destroyed my marriage and my life, don't you think you at least owe me that much? Melinda: Carsen, I think this is a conversation you should be having with Joe... Carsen: Oh trust me, Joe and I have already had our words. I'm here to talk to you. Melinda: Carsen, I'm sorry. I don't know what else to say. I wasn't trying to hurt you. Carsen: You weren't trying to help me either! Joe and I have a family! Did you ever once consider our children or the family that you were tearing apart? What is this, some kinda pay back from college? Melinda: Oh Carsen, please. That was years ago. Of course I was angry when all of that stuff happened back in school. But I got over that. I got married and raised my own children. I am certainly not still hung up over something that happened over 25 years ago! Joe and I..... Carsen: Joe and I? Don't you dare speak my husband's name in the same sentence as yours! Silence Melinda: Look, Carsen....you came over to my home. I didn't come looking for you. Either you want to talk or you don't. Carsen: I know you........the mistress.... does not actually have the nerve to stand there getting an attitude with me! You are really a piece of work, you know that Melinda Ferguson? You know what? This whole conversation is pointless. I really came over to hand you this anyway. Carsen reaches into her bag and hands Melinda an envelope. Melinda: What? What is this? Carsen: It's a letter from the Parent's Council. Actually, it's a summons to appear before the board of trustees tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. Melinda: Excuse me? For what? Carsen: The Parent's Council has filed a charge against you for violation of moral conduct. Seems the parent's are not quite comfortable with having and adulterer leading their children. I wonder if the Board of Trustee's will agree. I guess we'll see in the morning, now won't we, Melinda?
