Mona: Now additionally, you will only be able to wear your organizations paraphernalia on one day per week. The office of greek affairs has come up with a schedule that will assign each organization a different day for each week and that will be the only day you are permitted to wear your greek letters on campus. Because there are only 7 days and 10, wait, I mean 9 organizations......Sigma Gamma Rho and Iota Phi Theta will have to share a day with one of the other organizations but only on a rotating basis- when the primary organization for that day wants to take a break, they have the authority to grant you permission to wear your colors on that day. Otherwise, you just have to hope for the next week. Now...last but certainly not least... to my lovely sorors of Alpha K. Alpha... what can I say about yall...
Dashia: Alpha K. Alpha?
Whispers and can be heard throughout the auditorium.
Mona: Sorors, you are perfect in every way. Continue on your journey of sisterhood and service in the name of Alllllpha Kappa Allllpha. Thank you little students for your attention and if you have any questions, you can schedule an appointment to meet with me in my office. I sincerely look forward to working with each of the organizations this year! Go Ahpla!
Mona walks back to her seat. No one is clapping and the auditorium is silent.
President Ferguson takes the podium: Thank you, Mona for that introduction. Students, Faculty, Staff, I would like to thank you again for attending this year's opening convocation ceremony. I am not only proud to be the President of this fine institution, but I am also proud to call myself an alumnae for the Ahpla spirit is a spirit that shall never die!
The audience begins to clap slowly and quietly, as the atmosphere of the convocation has changed.
President Ferguson: Thank you and I'll see you all around campus! You are dismissed.
The audience begins to leave.
Outside the auditorium, Denitra has just arrived as the students and faculty of Aphla U are leaving the auditorium.
Joriah: Yo! Nitra!
Denitra stands in silence.
Joriah walks over to where she is standing.
Joriah: Yo Baby!
Denitra: Hi.
Joriah leans in to kiss Denitra and she backs away.
Joriah: Okay.......did I do somethin' wrong?
Silence
Joriah: Nitra? Sup baby? You mad at me bout somethin'?
Denitra: I thought you were gonna help me move into my room, Joriah.
Joriah: Oh snap, I forgot. I'm sorry, baby! My bad. Your stuff still downstairs? Come on, let's go so I can start movin' it up.
Denitra: I see you ain't listen to your voicemail. Gary helped me before he left.
Joriah: Oh that's good. I'm sorry, baby. Don't be mad.
Denitra: Why you ain't answer your phone?
Joriah: You know how it is in the first of the year. I was catchin' up with frat and now I can't find my phone. I think I left it in Alvin's car.
Denitra: From what I hear, that ain't all you been catchin' up with.
Joriah: What?
Denitra: Did you kiss Dashia?
Joriah: What? Who told you that?
Denitra: Why does it matter who told me that? Did you kiss her or not?
Joriah: I told you to stop listenin' to all your friends. They're jealous of us, Nitra. When you gonna learn?
Denitra: Why would my friends just lie to me for no reason, Joriah? They must have seen somethin' or they wouldn't have told me that!
Joriah: Look girl, I told you I wasn't messin' with Dashia and that's that.........now either you believe me or you don't but I...........
Joriah is interrupted by Dashia
Dashia: What's up Joriah.........oh hey, Denitra. Ummmmmmm Joriah, I just wanted to say thank you for helpin' me move into my room yesterday. It was so sweet of you to do that. You know pretty girls and pretty boys gotta stick together........
Joriah smiles
Dashia: Oh Denitra, that's a greek reference.........pretty boys and pretty girls.........I know you aren't greek so you wouldn't necessarily get it. I don't want you to feel left out.
Denitra: I know exactly what it means. What I also know is that you need to stay away from my man.
Dashia: What?
Denitra steps close to Dashia
Denitra: You heard me. I would appreciate it if you would stay away from my man.
Dashia: I think you need to calm down, Denitra. You know me and Joriah been friends since high school. So if you have a problem with us hangin' out, it sounds like you need to tell your man to stay away from me. This is so petty......I don't even have time for this. I gotta go find my sorors.
Dashia begins to walk away and then turns around.
Dashia: Oh Joriah, I almost forgot (reaching into her purse).........you left this.......I mean I found this and I think it's yours........
Dashia pulls out Joriah's cell phone and hands it him while Denitra is staring at him angrily.
Across the quad, the Alpha's are gathered together.
Brian: This is wild! How she think she's gonna enforce some crazy rules like that?
Nathaniel: That girl has bumped her head if she think we're gonna follow that crap!
Jovan: Bruhs, bruhs, settle down. I know ya'll are upset. All the greeks on campus are.
Brian: So what are we gonna do about it?
Jovan: I'm gonna call a meetin' tonight with all the other NPHC reps so we can try to come up with some kinda plan of action cause this has to be stopped.
Brian: Yeah- only problem is.......you know they already watchin' us cause they didn't wanna give us the house anyway. I mean.........is it a good move for us to be causin' friction on campus?
Nathaniel: Yeah, man, Brian has a good point.
Jovan: I hear what you saying, phrat but we can't let her do this to greek life on campus.
Nathaniel: What I'm trippin' off is......how could the President let her even think that any of that crap is a good idea?
Jovan: The President is her mom! So of course she gonna back her up. I mean don't get me wrong......I love President Ferguson but really, Mona doesn't even have the credentials to be in that position, anyway.
Nathaniel: But yo! Did you hear how she was jackin' up everybody's colors? Is she for real?
Brian: I ain't surprised. You ain't hear about her? My cousin graduated the year after her. He told me all about her before I even got here. They ain't even want her to be an AKA anyway. She only got in cause her mom is an AKA.
Nathaniel: That's the one who's name was Paper Weight, right?
Brian (laughing): Yup! That's her! Mona "Paper Weight" Ferguson!
The Alpha's are interupted by a voice from behind them.
Mona: I'm so happy to hear that I have so much support on campus already. I'm glad you seem to know your greek history. Knowing your history is very important. It's so nice to be respected as such an important greek in this University's history. Oh Jovan....I'm glad I ran into you......
Jovan: What is it Mona?
Mona: I actually prefer Ms Ferguson........anyway,..I need to see you in my office about something very important. How is next Monday at 9:00 a.m.?
Jovan: That's fine.
Mona: Great! Please don't be late. I despise tardiness. Goodbye gentleman!
Mona walks off towards her office
Nathaniel: Yo, Jovan, why you ain't say nothin' to her?
Jovan: It's not time. LIke I said, I'm gonna call the other NPHC reps tonight so we can get a plan together. For now, I'll just let Mona think we're supportin' her. Trust me, we got her right where we need her to be .....as long as she thinks we're behind her, she'll never see what we got comin'. Mona has no idea what she's dealin' with.....it's some new greeks runnin' the yard now........
As Mona is walking towards her office, she hears a voice from behind her.
"Mona! Mona I know you hear me! We need to have a little chat about your so called new rules!"
Mona turns around to see who that voice belongs to.
Mona: Oh! Hi...........P.J.! I thought that was you! Skee-Wee!
