Season 2 - Episode 14

We resume our episode this week with Melinda Ferguson, who has just had a fight with her best friend, Valerie Edwards.

Valerie hangs up the phone before Melinda can respond. Melinda furiously begins to pace around in her kitchen when the phone rings again. Without looking at the caller ID, she picks up the phone.

Melinda: Oh you're calling back so soon, huh? More insults to throw that you forgot?

Joseph: Hello? Melinda?

Melinda: Yes, hello? Hello? Who is this?

Joseph: Baby it's me....Joe....

Melinda: Wha....what?

Joseph: Linda....it's me...Joe. I've been trying to reach you.

Melinda: Joe.....wha...what do you want? This really isn't a good time.

Joseph: Are you okay?

Melinda: I'm fine.

Joseph: Linda?

Melinda (sounding teary): Yes?

Joseph: Melinda, you're not fine! You sound like you're crying! What is it?

Melinda: It's nothing.

Joseph: It is something. Are the girls okay?

Melinda: The girls are fine.

Joseph: Melinda, you got me worried.

Silence

Joseph: I'm on my way over.

Melinda: Joseph, no...

Joseph: I'm not taking no for an answer, Linda. You need me. I'm on my way. I'll be there in fifteen.

Melinda: Okay. Okay. I'll see you soon....

Off campus at a new apartment complex, Joi and Jovan are moving into their new place.

Joi: Be careful with that box!

Brian: Yeah, okay I got it!

Joi: It doesn't look like it from here! Are you sure?

Brian: I'm sure, Joi! Look! Do you want to do this?

Jovan walks in the door.

Jovan: Easy frat....what is goin' on in here?

Brian: Oh nothin'....just takin orders from the drill Sergeant over there!

Joi: Oh Brian be nice! I'm not that bad!

Brian continues into the bedroom with the boxes.

Jovan walks over to kiss Joi.

Jovan: So what do you think, baby?

Joi looks around.

Joi: I like it. It has a lot of potential....

Jovan: Good. I'm glad. You think Zion will like it?

Joi starts to laugh.

Jovan: What?

Joi: Zion is one month old....I think he'll be fine...

Jovan laughs.

Jovan: Good. I just want my family to be happy...

Joi: Well we are!

Jovan: Great.

Joi: I did want to talk to you about one thing that's been on my mind.

Jovan: Oh okay. What's up?

Joi: It's about Patrick....

Jovan: What? Why are we still talkin' about that scrub?

Joi: It's not a big deal but I just didn't want you to hear it from someone else.

Jovan: Hear what?

Joi: Well......Patrick came to visit me in the hospital....

Scene 1 Continued...

Over at Melinda’s house, she is still pacing back and forth in her living room, when her doorbell rings. She takes a deep breath before walking to the foyer to answer it.
Melinda walks out to the foyer and opens the door.

Melinda: Joseph.

Joseph: Linda….hey….

Before Melinda can say another word, Joseph walks up and grabs her into a tight embrace to hug her. Melinda reluctantly stands there at first and finally relaxes her shoulders and buries her head into his shoulders and begins to cry. Joseph continues to hug her for a few minutes before finally walking her into the house and sitting her down on the couch.

Melinda: Joe….thank you for coming over.

Joseph: You know you don’t have to thank me! Are you okay?

Melinda: Yeah, I guess. I mean you know….I will be.

Joseph: You wanna talk about it?

Melinda: I had a fight with Valerie.

Joseph: Oh…I’m sorry Linda. But that’s your home girl. I’m sure you all will patch things up.

Melinda: I guess. It’s just….we’ve never had a fight before so…

Joseph: Don’t say anymore. I understand.

Melinda: You always did….

Silence

Melinda: This is sort of awkward.

Joseph: Yeah, I know.

Melinda: Things are just so weird with us now. After everything that happened.

Joseph: I never got a chance to apologize to you.

Melinda: Apologize to me for what?

Joseph: With everything that has happened with the University….I feel like it’s my fault….

Melinda: Joe stop……I’m a big girl…it’s both of our fault. We both made our decisions. You have nothing to apologize for. Is that why you’ve been trying to call me?

Joseph: Actually, no. There’s something important I need to talk to you about...

Kyle: Oh........(Kyle let's out a deep sigh).....Stash....you better sit down.

Stasha: Kyle, cut the crap and just be honest with me for once in your life!

Kyle: Stash...I....I don't even know how to say this but....I.......

Stasha: Oh what is it Kyle? Just spit it out!

Kyle: Stasha......I'm HIV positive.....

Silence

Kyle: Stasha….did you hear what I said?

Stasha: No I don’t think I did. Did you just say….

Kyle starts to shake his head back and forth.

Kyle: Stash I’m sorry. I’m so so sorry….I didn’t know…

Stasha begins to scream out loudly and jumps up and pushes Kyle down to the floor. She jumps on top of him and begins to wildly hit and slap him while screaming at the same time.

Stasha: I hate you! I hate you!

Kyle: Stasha please! Stop it! Get it off me!

Stasha continues hitting Kyle and screaming at the top of her lungs. Armani rushes into the room and runs over to where the confrontation is taking place. He grabs Stasha off of Kyle and holds her up towards his chest. Stasha continues to scream and fling her arms, trying to break free from Armani’s restraint.

Stasha: Let me go! Let me go!

Kyle: Get her out of her dawg! Stasha I can’t talk to you when you’re like this!

Stasha: I hate you, Kyle!

Armani continues to struggle with Stasha down the stairs and gets her out the door before he puts her down.

Armani: Stash! Calm down, girl!

Stasha: Armani stay out of this! You have no idea what is goin’ on!

Armani: Maybe not but I’m not lettin’ you back into this house until you calm down.

Stasha: Just as well. I never wanna see that lyin’ cheater again!

Stasha turns and begins to angrily storm down the stairs on her way to the Health Center….

Scene 2 Continued...

Joi: It's not a big deal but I just didn't want you to hear it from someone else.

Jovan: Hear what?

Joi: Well......he came to visit me in the hospital....

Jovan: Excuse me?

Joi: Jovan calm down....it was not big deal.

Jovan: No big deal? If it was no big deal, then why has it taken you a month to tell me about it?

Brian walks from the back room.

Brian: Excuse me, but uh....do you need any more help?

Jovan: Oh um nah I uh....I think we got everything....

Brian: Cool. Well I'm gonna get outta here then....if you guys need any more help, just let me know...

Joi: Thanks again, Brian.

Brian: No problem. Later Miss Joi. See ya later frat.

Jovan: Alright.

Brian walks out and shuts the door behind him.

Silence

Joi: Are you angry?

Jovan: I'm not angry, but I am a little curious as to why you waited so long to tell me.

Joi: Because like I said it was no big deal. He stopped by cause he heard the baby was here.

Jovan: He saw the baby?

Joi: I don't know! They had taken him to the nursery at that point!

Jovan: What else did he say when he was there?

Joi: Nothin'! I don't know....I don't remember....it....look I didn't bring this up to start a fight with you! I just.....

Just then there is a knock on the door.

Joi: I guess Brian forgot something?

Jovan opens the door to find Krystalyn on the other side....

Scene 3 Continued...

Over at the Health Center, Stasha has arrived to meet with the doctor for her test results.

Stasha: Um, hello....I have a 3:00 appointment with the doctor.

Johnice: First Name, please?

Stasha: Stasha.

Johnice looks at the screen.

Johnice: Oh yes. Have a seat. We'll be with you in a few minutes.

Stasha: Okay, thanks.

Stasha goes over and sits in one of the chairs in the waiting area. She picks up pamphlet about sexually transmitted diseases. Then she picks up a pamphlet on HIV. She begins to read through the statistics and feels herself getting teary eyed. She feels her cell phone ringing and looks down to see that it is Kiaterria calling her. She gets up and motions to Johnice that she is stepping outside.

Stasha: Hello?

Kiaterria: Stash....it's me....

Stasha: What do you want, Tee?

Kiaterria: I wanted to tell you that I am sorry.....

Silence

Kiaterria: Stasha....I'm so sorry for keepin' a secret from you. It was wrong of me.

Stasha begins to cry.

Kiaterria: Stasha are you okay?

Stasha: No, I'm not....Tee.....Kyle tested positive for HIV....

Kiaterria: What? Are you sure?

Stasha: Yes! He just told me and...I'm here at the Health Center....I just.....I need friend....

Stasha begins to cry harder.

Kiaterria: Oh Stash! I had no idea! I'm on my way over there now!

Stasha: Okay. Okay. Thank you, Tee.

Stasha hangs up the phone and walks back inside just in enough time to hear her name called. She follows the nurse back to the doctor's office.

Johnice: The doctor will be with you in few moments.

Stasha: Thanks.

A few minutes later, the Dr. walks into the office.

Dr. Suarez: Good afternoon, Stasha, I'm Dr. Suarez.

Stasha: Hello.

Dr. Suarez: I see we're scheduled to review the results from your STD testing, correct?

Dr. Suarez: Okay....well I was able to review your test results and the results of your HIV test.... came back....and they are....
