Season 2 - Episode 18

Taylor: Wait. Kashawn....can we talk?

Kashawn: About what?

Taylor: I just....I...need to talk to you privately. Where's Laci?

Taylor looks around the parking lot to see who is around.

Kashawn: Yeah, like I thought.....I gotta go...

Kashawn walks past Taylor and accidentally bumps into her. Taylor drops her purse and her things begin to fall out. Kashawn turns to look and begins to frown his face up as he sees her frantically scrambling to grab her things.

Kashawn (yelling): Taylor what is that in your purse! Is that...is that.....a gun....

Taylor: Shh! Why are you so loud?

Kashawn: Taylor why are you carrying a gun?

Taylor: For protection!

Kashawn: Protection from who?

Taylor: Just in general, Shawn.

Kashawn: Taylor, that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Did somethin’ happen? Why the heck would you start carryin’ a gun? That is so dangerous.

Taylor: Why do you care?

Kashawn: Just because we aren’t together anymore doesn’t mean I don’t at least care about you, Taylor.

Silence

Taylor: I don’t wanna talk about it here, okay? Something did happen to me but I…..I don’t wanna talk about it.

Kashawn: Talk about what, Taylor?

Taylor sighs deeply

Taylor: Do you think we could go somewhere? Alone?

We rejoin the scene of the Alpha party, where all of the brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha have just met outside.

Jovan: Bro, what’s up? Brian said we got some kinda emergency.

Sean: You sure do....

The Alpha’s turn around to see Sean, the new Director of Greek life standing behind them, along with Dr. Mwatsumi.....

Jovan: Sean, what’s goin’ on, my man?

Sean: What’s going on is that you all are throwing an illegal party.

DeVaughn (yells): What!

Jovan looks over at him and gives him a look. He turns back towards Sean.

Jovan (speaking in a very calm tone): I guess I don’t understand?

Sean: According to the student activities handbook, all social activities must be cleared through my office. I do not have any record of a request being turned in for this function.

Dr. Mwatsumi: I guess we’ll have to shut this party down then.

Jovan: It’s an off campus event! How can your office regulate something that isn’t even happening on campus?

Sean: If you read the handbook, it clearly states…..

Brian: Come on man, give us a break! You see we got all these people already here!

Sean: I cannot show favoritism to one group. That would not be fair. I’m not sure what happened before I took over the office, but from now on, we’re goin’ to be operating strictly by the book!

Dr. Mwatsumi (to the crowd): Students! Students! Listen up…..unfortunately….I’m goin’ to have to ask….

Students: Boo!

Dr. Mwatsumi: Students! Students, please! Quiet down….I’m tryin’ to make an announcement!

Mona: What in the world is goin’ on here?

Dr. Mwatsumi and Sean turn around to find Mona standing behind them…

Scene 1 Continued...

Over in the parking lot, Kashawn and Taylor are sitting in silence.

Kashawn: I thought you wanted to talk.

Taylor: I do.

Kashawn: So….

Silence

Kashawn: Why are you carryin’ a gun around, Taylor?

Taylor: Because…..I’m afraid….

Kashawn: Afraid of what?

Taylor: You know that girl that got attacked on campus last month?

Kashawn: Oh my gosh! Taylor, was that you?

Taylor: No! No it wasn’t…..

Kashawn lets out a sigh of relief

Taylor: It was a girl in my chemistry class. Nice to know you were concerned about me, though…..

Silence

Taylor: Anyway…..I don’t know, it just kinda freaked me out. Seemed a little close for comfort, I guess.

Kashawn: So that made you think a gun a was good idea?

Taylor: Do you have a better idea? I used to feel very safe and now I…..I’m all alone, Shawn. I’m always alone. I don’t have anyone and I’m scared. I mean that girl…..all she was doing was walking back to her dorm from the library and look what happened to her. Who’s to say it wouldn’t be me next?

Taylor starts to cry.

Kashawn: Taylor, don’t cry….it’s gonna be okay….

Taylor leans over and lays her head on his chest.

Taylor: Thanks, Shawn. No matter what, you’ve always been a good friend to me. Even when I wasn’t to you.

Silence

Taylor: I know you don’t want to hear this, but Shawn I still love you. Even after everything that has happened with Laci. But if you’re happy with her, I swear I’ll leave you alone. But not until you look me in my eyes and tell me you don’t love me.

Taylor sits up and looks at Kashawn with tears in her eyes.

Taylor: Do you, Shawn? Do you still love me?

Over in Stasha's room, Kiaterria has come over to try and recruit Stasha to attend the Alpha party with her. We rejoin them....

Kiaterria: You miss him, don’t you?

Stasha: Of course I do. I mean I hate him and I’m furious at him for what he did to me…..but I loved Kyle for a long time. We were friends, Tee. I think that’s what hurts the most. We were friends. I feel like he betrayed our friendship.

Kiaterria: He’s not doin’ too good.

Stasha: What…with the breakup? Well he should have thought about that before he started screwing my line sister

Kiaterria: No I mean with all this HIV stuff….he’s like in denial or something, Stash. He won’t even go back to the doctor to start his treatment plan.

Stasha: What?

Kiaterria: He really needs a friend who can kick his butt back into reality.

Stasha: What are you suggesting, Tee? That I be that friend? Like he was such a great friend to me?

Kiaterria; Well yeah, Stash….that is what I’m sayin’. I know you hate him right now and you certainly have the right to but….I don’t think anyone could get to him but you. Stash…..will you just think about it…..he really needs you…..

Stasha: No…..Tee….I….I can’t….think about what you’re askin’ me to do.

Kiaterria: I know.

Stasha: I mean, maybe at some point, but right now, I just can’t even face it all….

Kiaterria: I understand. I know it’s a lot to take it. Just you know….think about it.

Stasha: Okay, I will.

Kiaterria: Now get dressed girl, before we miss this party!

Stasha: No Tee…..I really don’t want to go……

Kiaterria: Who cares! Get up and get dressed! I’m not takin’ no for an answer!

Stasha: Oh fine! You get on my nerves!

Kiaterria: that’s what sisters are for!

Stasha laughs and begins to rummage through her closet. Her cell phone begins to ring and she goes over to pick it up.

Stasha: Oh my gosh! I can’t believe this! The nerve!

Kiaterria: Huh? Who is it?

Stasha looks over at Kiaterria

Stasha: It’s Karissa!

Scene 2 Continued...

Sean: Mona……we’re in the middle of something very important.

Mona: Well good for you. I’m here for the party.

Dr. Mwatsumi: We’re in the process of shutting this party down, so unfortunately there won’t be a party for you to attend in a few minutes.

Mona: Shutting it down? But why?

Sean: Well not that it’s any of your business, but this party is a non sanctioned event.

Mona: What do you mean non sanctioned? I approved this party months ago….and while I may not be the Director of Greek Life any longer, I was when I approved it, therefore it’s a valid event.

Dr. Mwatsumi: Excuse me? What are you talkin’ about? This is nonsense. Sean, continue.

Mona: Do you need proof, Dr. Mwatsumi? Because I’m sure there is still a copy of it in the office files. I know for sure I have a copy. I made copies of everything and kept a file at home as well as in the office.

Sean looks over at Dr. Mwatsumi. Jovan jumps in to speak.

Jovan: Thank goodness you showed up, Mona. I knew we got this approved months ago.

Sean: And you say there is a copy of the form in the office?

Mona: Sure is. In the third drawer….well that is, if you haven’t moved things around….

Dr. Mwatsumi: We’re going to the office right now to find this supposed paperwork and I swear Ms. Ferguson if it isn’t there, this party is being shut down immediately and you will be dealt with!

Sean and Dr. Mwatsumi begin to storm off towards the car.

Jovan: Thanks, Mona!

Mona: No problem! Does that mean I get in free?

Jovan: Um, sure….but just one thing…..

Mona: What’s up?

Jovan: We never turned in any paperwork to you….

Mona: I know.

Jovan: But….

Mona: But nothing…..a little birdy warned me what Sean and Dr. M were up to…..I took care of it…..they’ll find exactly what they are lookin’ for…..

Jovan: Wow, Mona. Thanks. I don’t know how to thank you.

Mona smiles

Mona: Well now that you mention it, I think I do need a little help from you and the rest of the frat…..

Scene 3 Continued...

Stasha: Oh my gosh! I can’t believe this! The nerve!

Kiaterria: Huh? Who is it?

Stasha looks over at Kiaterria

Stasha: It’s Karissa!

Kiaterria: What!

Stasha: Yeah right! Like I'd really talk to her!

Stasha presses ignore and continues getting dressed. Stasha's phone begins to ring again. She picks it up to see that it is Karissa.

Stasha: Oh my gosh! Why can't she take a hint? I do not want to talk to her!

Kiaterria: You want me to pick up?

Stasha: No, don't worry. I got this.

Stasha picks up the phone.

Stasha: Look.....I don't know why are you are callin' me, but I have nothin' to say to you!

Karissa: Oh my gosh, Stasha! I need to talk to you!

Stasha: About what? How you lied and slept with my man behind my back? How dare you call my phone, you raggedy excuse for a woman! Don't call me ever again, Karissa. I mean it! You are not my friend! You are not my soror! You mean nothin' to me!

Stasha hangs up the phone and throws it down on the bed.

Kiaterria: Wow, Stash! I didn't know you had it in you! You're such a good girl!

Stasha: Yeah, but I'm not going to be anybody's fool either!

Kiaterria: I hear that, soror! Well I'm proud of you for sticking up for yourself.

Stasha: Thanks.

Kiaterria: What the heck would she be callin' you for anyway?

Stasha: Who knows. Probably to offer another lame apology. Hey.....what's that noise?

Kiaterria: What? Oh! That's my phone!

Kiaterria digs into her purse to retrieve her cell phone.

Kiaterria: You are not goin' to believe this!

Stasha: What?

Kiaterria: Now she's callin' me!

Stasha: Are you serious?

Kiaterria picks up her phone.

Kiaterria: Yes?

Karissa: Oh my gosh! Tee! I've been tryin' to reach you or Stash!

Kiaterria: What is it Karissa? What is so important that you had to reach us?

Kiaterria looks over at Stasha and rolls her eyes.

Karissa: It's Kyle!

Kiaterria: What? What's wrong?

Karissa: Armani called me! He went into Kyle's room to get him for the party and found him slumped over on the bed! Tee.....he said he didn't think Kyle was breathing......
