Season 2 - Episode 21 We resume our episode this week with Melinda Ferguson, who is at home, getting ready for bed. She picks up her phone and dials a number. Joseph: Hello? Melinda: Hey Joe.... Joseph: Hey....how are you? Melinda: I'm fine. I'd be better if I was out there with you! Joseph: Oh stop it! I'll only be here for two months. Besides, once you get this whole mess with Mona straightened out....you can come out and spend the rest of the time with me. Melinda: Yeah, I know..... Joseph: So what's new with that situation? Melinda: Well not much so far...my initial meeting with the Regional Director got cancelled....some kinda emergency so she rescheduled for next week. Joseph: You talked to Mona yet? Melinda: I did....and it was like talkin' to a brick wall! Joseph: Really? Melinda: I just can't seem to get a straight answer out of that girl! Joseph: Are you worried? Melinda: I don't know....I mean.....I think i can smooth things over with the sorority....well I hope I can, anyway.....it's really with the University and with Val that I'm worried about.... Joseph: Still haven't talked to her? Melinda: Not since our fight. I can't get a hold of Lashonda......the whole thing is just a mess. Joseph: I wish I was there to take you to dinner or something. Melinda: That would be nice.....Joe I'm goin' crazy here! I'm so bored being at home. I mean it was nice at first....getting caught up on movies....and resting....and of course all of those household projects I've been putting off for years....I was finally able to get done. But now I'm just plain 'ol bored! Joseph laughs Joseph: Same old Melinda! Melinda: You callin' me old, Joseph Davenport? Joseph laughs harder Melinda: That's okay! Just remember.....I may be old, but you'll always be older! Joseph: Now that was cold! Melinda: Hold on, Joe, I have another call..... Melinda clicks over. Melinda: Hello? Valerie: Linda? Hey. It's me.... ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Over in the diner, Joriah and Dashia are together having a later dinner. Dashia: Wasn't the Alpha party hot? Joriah: Uh....it was alright..... Dashia: Alright? Oh stop! You know it was hot! Joriah: Like I said....it was alright....it won't a Kappa party but you know.... Dashia: Hater! Joriah: Who's hatin'? Dashia: You! Okay fine....at least admit it....my neo's turned it out! Joriah: Okay yeah now they were...... Dashia: And you already know who taught them how to step! Joriah: Girl, please! You ain't got no rhythm! Dashia starts to laugh. Dashia: I can out step you, any day! Joriah: Oh please! Dashia: Did you hear about what happened, though? Joriah: What happened where? Dashia leans closer and starts to whisper.... Dashia: Apparently Sean and Dr. M showed up at the party tryin' to shut it down! Joriah: For real? Dashia: Yeah that's what I heard.....and then Mona shows up....and she.... Joriah's cell phone begins to ring. He pulls it out to look at it.... Joriah: Hmm. Dashia: What's up? Joriah: It's Denitra..... ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Scene 1 Continued... Melinda: Hold on, Joe, I have another call..... Melinda clicks over. Melinda: Hello? Valerie: Linda? Hey. It's me.... Melinda: Oh Val....hey....hold on, okay? Valerie: Sure. Melinda clicks back over. Melinda: Hey.... Joseph: Yep. Melinda: Guess who that is? Joseph: Who? Melinda: Val.... Joseph: Oh wow. I guess we talked her up. Alright.....go handle your business. Call me tomorrow. Melinda: Okay. Talk to you later. Melinda clicks back over. Melinda: You there? Valerie: I'm here. Melinda: I'm kinda surprised to hear from you. Valerie: I was callin' to find out if there is an update. Melinda: Valerie, did you call the sorority regional office? Valerie: What? Melinda: The sorority regional office contacted me. Did you call them? Valerie: No, I didn't, Melinda. Not like I didn't have a right to, but no I didn't. I contacted you first to handle it. And I'm calling you for an update. Melinda: I don't have one. Valerie: What? Melinda, this is not a game! This is very serious business that affects my daughter...your god daughter! Melinda: Yes, I know, Valerie and it also effects my daughter....your god daughter! Silence Melinda: And furthermore....why are you so angry with me? I had no idea what was going on! Valerie: And that's exactly why, Melinda! Because you didn't know! You never know! Those girls of yours have your head so far into the sand....you barely know your left from your right! Melinda: That's unfair, Val. Silence Melinda: You there? Valerie: Come to my house. Melinda: What? Valerie: For the weekend. Drive out to my house. It's only a two hour drive. Get in your and drive out here tomorrow so we can hash this thing out face to face. We've been friends too long to let this come between us. Melinda: Does that mean you're not mad anymore? Valerie: Oh no, it doesn't mean that. I'm definitely still angry with you. I just figure we must as well be angry together over a few bottles of wine..... Melinda smiles. Melinda: Okay. Okay....I'll call you when I'm on my way..... ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Over at the Davenport home, Sheena has just arrived to check on her mother. She comes through the garage and notices that the house is completely dark. She looks around and drops her keys on the table. Sheena (yelling out): Mom? Silence Sheena: Moooom? Silence Sheena thinks: I know she must be here....her car is outside.... Sheena walks down the hall and starts to look into the bedrooms. Sheena: Mom, where are you? Carsen: (speaking barely above a whisper): Sheena? Sheena: Mom? Where are you? Carsen: I'm back here...in the bedroom.... Sheena goes back to the bedroom and opens the door. She sees that her mother is still in the bed. The television is on, but the volume is turned down low. The curtains are all pulled shut. There are carryout boxes beside the bed on the floor. Sheena: Mom? Carsen; Hey baby....what are you doin' here? Sheena: Mom....wha....what is goin' on here? Carsen: What do you mean? Sheena: Um......let's see....I've been callin' you and you haven't called me back..... Carsen: I'm sorry, sweetie. I've been a little busy. Sheena: You haven't been to work? Carsen: What, are you checking up on me now? Sheena: Mom....why are you yellin' at me? Carsen: Who's yelling? Sheena: You are! And then I come over here and find you in bed in a smelly robe and your hair wrapped up. When is the last time you left the house? Mom, what is goin' on? ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Scene 2 Continued... Joriah's cell phone begins to ring. He pulls it out to look at it.... Joriah: Hmm. Dashia: What's up? Joriah: It's Denitra..... Dashia: What? I thought she left. Joriah: She did.... The phone stops ringing. Joriah: Oh well. Went to voicemail. The phone starts to ring again. Joriah: It's her again. I guess I should take it. Dashia rolls her eyes. Joriah: Dash....just give me a sec. Joriah gets up and answers the phone, while walking towards the door. Joriah: Hello? Denitra: Joriah! Joriah: Hey girl......what's up..... Denitra: How are you? Joriah: I'm good....how are you? Denitra: I'm great! Joriah: Yeah, you sound like it! Denitra: Oh Joriah, I love it here! Joriah: Oh yeah? Denitra: Yeah, I do! I'm tellin' you, it was just what I needed to clear my head. I feel so much better. I feel like myself again! Joriah: Good.... Denitra: So what's goin' on with you? Joriah: Same ol, same ol.....frat....class...stayin' pretty..... Denitra laughs Joriah: Dag girl....it's been a long time since I've heard you laugh.... Denitra: Yeah, I know. But I told you....I feel so much better bein' out here. I do have somethin' to tell you.... Joriah: Yeah? What's up? Denitra: Uh.......you know I think I'll wait.... Joriah: Huh? Denitra: Yeah....I'll wait and save it....it will be a much better surprise in person..... ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Scene 3 continued... Sheena: Mom....why are you yellin' at me? Carsen: Who's yelling? Sheena: You are! And then I come over here and find you in bed in a smelly robe and your hair wrapped up. When is the last time you left the house? Mom, what is goin' on? Carsen: Nothing. I'm just not feeling well. Sheena: Is it dad? Carsen: What? Sheena: Dad.....the divorce....is that was this is about? Carsen turns towards the wall away from Sheena and buries her head into a pillow. Sheena: Oh mom..... Sheena leans down and lays her head into her mother's shoulder and begins to hug her.... Carsen: I'm just havin' a bad week. Sheena: What happened? Did you see him or something? Carsen: I met with the lawyer. It just....I don't know, Sheen......I guess it's just starting to be real to me.....I can't believe my marriage is over.... Sheena: Oh mommy......but it's not your fault. Carsen: That's not the point, Sheena. I gave your father so many years of my life.....we've shared everything together.....I just can't believe.... Sheena: Mom, you have to pull yourself together. I've never seen you like this. Carsen: I'll be fine. Sheena: You know what? Why don't you take a shower and get dressed and we go out and have a girl's day together? Carsen: Nah....I don't really feel up to it. Sheena: Mom, I'm tryin' here.... Carsen: I know honey. And I really appreciate it. Sheena: I know! Now this is an even better idea! Maybe the best Idea I've ever had in my life! Carsen gives a half smile. Carsen: Oh well in that case, I can't wait to hear it.... Sheena: Why don't we drive up and surprise Auntie Valerie? All you have to do is take a shower and get dressed, mom. I'll pack your bag and get the car ready and I'll drive you up there myself. You're both always saying you don't spend enough time together. A weekend with Soror Val might be just what you need! Carsen: You know.....that's actually not a bad idea! Sheena: Great! We'll leave in the morning! Be dressed and ready to go at 9! This is going to be the best weekend ever!
