Season 2 - Episode 35

We resume our episode this week with Patrick and Joi.

Patrick: Well anyway, congrats again.

Joi: Thanks, Pat. I really appreciate it.

Patrick: Hug?

Joi: Sure!

Patrick leans down and pulls Joi into a tight, intimate embrace.

"What is going on here?"

Patrick and Joi turn around to find Jovan standing there holding a bag full of Zeta Phi Beta paraphernalia.....

Joi: Oh. Jovan. Honey. Hey....

Patrick: Hey, what's up man.

Patrick goes to give Jovan some dap. Jovan pulls away.

Jovan: What's up man? What's up man? I walk up and find you hugged up with my girl and all you can say is what's up man?

Patrick: There must be some kinda misunderstanding.....

Jovan: What's to misunderstand? I saw it with my own eyes.

Joi: Jovan! Stop it!

Jovan: Seriously? I don't even believe this!

Patrick: Hey man....I don't know what you're talkin' about, but you are trippin' right now....

Jovan steps up closer to Jovan's face.

Jovan (speaking loudly): Oh I'm trippin? I'm trippin'?

Everyone turns and starts to look in their direction. Krystalyn rushes over.

Krystalyn: What's goin' on over here! Patrick, stop it!

Shakir: Well I was in my Biology class earlier and I overheard these two guys in front of me talking about the football player Kyle and how he was leaving for the semester. Then they started talkin' about a goin' away party he had and how the white dude on the football team started tripping out and grabbed the mic and basically told everybody in the party that Kyle was HIV positive!

Karissa starts to look at Shakir with a semi fearful expression and curiosity as to where he is going with this...

Shakir: Then he said that Jeff was hollering about how it was messed up that Kyle had gotten HIV from some hoe. And I was thinking....wow....that is really jacked up. You know I really love my baby, Karissa. And that could have been us. I'm really gonna straighten up and change my ways. As a matter of fact, I was thinking how I should go get you an engagement ring this weekend, so we can just start over completely....

Karissa (excited): Really, baby? A ring?

Shakir: Wait. Let me finish. So then, the other friend asks....well who did he get it from?

Silence

Shakir: Anything you want to say, sweetie?

Karissa: What do you mean?

Shakir: Oh okay. You're going to play that game? So yeah....imagine my surprise when he answered his friend Karissa....yeah you know....the one with all the junk in her trunk...yeah the SGRho......

Silence

Karissa: Shakir...I....I....

Shakir gets up and walks over to where Karissa is and before she can finish her sentence, he puts his hand around her neck and begins to choke her...

Karissa begins to kick wildly and tries to free herself from Shakir's hold. She's able to knee Shakir, which forces him to release her from his grip. Karissa is gasping for air and coughing. Shakir is bent over on the floor in pain.

Karissa: Shakir, you're crazy!

Shakir: No, you're the crazy one, you liar! I better not have no HIV!

Karissa: I probably got it from you!

Shakir: So you do have it?

Silence

Shakir: Answer me!

Karissa: Yes. Yes, Shakir, I do....

Scene 1 Continued...

Jovan steps up closer to Jovan's face.

Jovan (speaking loudly): Oh I'm trippin? I'm trippin'?

Everyone turns and starts to look in their direction. Krystalyn rushes over.

Krystalyn: What's goin' on over here! Patrick, stop it!

Joi: Jovan! Stop it!

Jovan turns to Joi.

Jovan: We need to talk!

Jovan pulls Joi over to the side.

Jovan: What the heck is goin' on here, Joi?

Joi: What do you mean? You are trippin' about nothin'!

Jovan: About nothin'? I walk up and you're hugged up with that guy and I'm trippin' about nothin'?

Joi: He was just congratulating me on crossin!

Jovan: Oh yeah, I bet. I bet he can't wait to get to all your Zeta/Sigma functions so he can have you to himself.

Joi: Jovan, stop it! You know I'm not thinkin' about him like that anymore! He showed me that he doesn't have any interest in me or Zion. Why would I be interested in someone like that?

Silence

Joi begins to stroke Jovan's arm.

Joi: I love you, Jovan. You...and only you.....okay?

Jovan looks down at Joi.

Jovan: Alright. Just watch yourself around that dude. I don't trust him.

Joi: Okay, fine.

Jovan gives her the bag he is holding.

Jovan: I got you somethin'....

Joi begins to smile and tears into her bag of Zeta Phi Beta gifts...

Joseph: I saw Carsen today and talked to her. She's gonna sign the divorce papers!

Melinda: Oh wow. Are you okay? How do you feel?

Joseph: I'm fine. This is what I've been wanting. What we've been wanting. Or so I thought....

Melinda: No, no....of course I'm happy for you....but you and Carsen shared a lifetime together. That can't be easy to get over...I just wanted to make sure you're okay.

Joseph: I'm fine. I'm more than okay. In fact, now I can finally ask you what I've been waiting to ask you for a few months now....now that I'm free.....there is nothing stopping me.....so here it is....Melinda.....will you......

Melinda: Wait!

Joseph: Huh?

Melinda: I uh...uh....the stove...it smells like something is burning.

Joseph: I turned everything off already.

Melinda: Oh......

Joseph: Just relax, Lindy.....

Melinda: I'm relaxed!

Joseph chuckles

Joseph: You don't seem relaxed. Drink more of your wine. Now like I was saying. Melinda, will you....

Just then, the doorbell rings.

Melinda: Are you expecting someone?

Joseph: No! I'm not! I have no idea who that could be!

Joseph gets up to answer the door. Before he does, he turns to Melinda.

Joseph: But hold that thought, okay? I'll be right back, I promise.

Melinda smiles

Melinda: Okay....

Joseph opens the door and is surprised to see his daughter Sheena standing on the other side.

Joseph: Baby girl....hey.........

Sheena: Hey dad. Are you busy?

Scene 2 Continued...

Shakir: So you do have it?

Silence

Shakir: Answer me!

Karissa: Yes. Yes, Shakir, I do....

Shakir: I can't believe this. Are you sure?

Karissa: Yes, I'm positive.

Shakir: How can you be sure?

Karissa: I got tested.

Shakir sits down on the bed in disbelief.

Shakir: I can't believe this.

Karissa: Shakir, you really need to get tested.

Shakir: What? I don't have that! I'm straight!

Karissa: Shakir, you never know. It's better to be safe....

Shakir: I said I ain't got it!

Karissa: You can't be sure of that, Shakir!

Shakir: Wait a minute.....so that dude....Kyle....he really does have it?

Karissa: Yes.

Shakir: So you were giving it up to him and messin' with me at the same time?

Silence

Shakir: Answer me, Karissa!

Karissa: Yes. Yes, I was....

Shakir gets up and lunges towards her again. Karissa jumps up and screams and runs out her room. People start to come out of their rooms and see Karissa running down the hall away from Shakir. Shakir pins Karissa up against a wall, and as soon as he does, the dorm security runs up and peels him off her. Security is pulling Shakir down the hall towards the door. As they are doing this, Shakir is screaming obscenities down the hall to Karissa. Karissa falls to the floor and begins to cry...

Scene 3 Continued...

Joseph opens the door and is surprised to see his daughter Sheena standing on the other side.

Joseph: Baby girl....hey.........

Sheena: Hey dad. Are you busy?

Joseph: No, baby. I'm always happy to see you!

Sheena: Do you have company?

Joseph: Oh. Well actually....I do....

Sheena looks over Joseph's shoulder to see Melinda sitting on the couch.

Sheena: Wow. I didn't realize you were having a romantic evening. Please, don't let me interrupt.

Sheena turns and begins to run down the stairs.

Joseph: Sheena, wait! Wait! Please...don't go!

Sheena runs and gets into her car before Joseph can stop her. He walks back into his apartment and slowly closes the door behind him.

Melinda: You okay?

Joseph: I guess. Not really....

Melinda: Oh Joe...I'm so sorry...I've ruined everything. I should go.

Joseph: No, please. I don't want you to leave.

Melinda: She seemed pretty upset, Joe. Maybe you should go after her.

Joseph: No. I know Sheena. It will only make things worse. Best thing is to let her cool off first.

Melinda: Hmm....sounds like her dad...

Joseph smiles

Joseph: She is a lot like me. Probably why we're always bumping heads...

Melinda: This is tough for her, Joe. You and Carsen....that's all she's ever known. It's going to take her awhile....

Joseph: I know. I know....it's just...that's still my baby....

Melinda smiles

Melinda: You're a great dad.

Joseph: Thanks. I don't feel like one right now, though. But anyway......if I recall.....I was in the middle of asking you something, Miss Melinda.....

Melinda: Oh goodness. No one has called me miss anything in a long time....

Joseph: You'll always be that college girl to me.....I love you Melinda. I've loved you ever since that first day I saw you....

Melinda: Don't you mean that first day you hit me with a snowball?

Joseph: I don't recall that.

Melinda: Oh yeah right!

Melinda and Joseph start to laugh....

Joseph: Melinda, I love you. We spent a lot of time apart and I don't want to spend another second, minute, or day without you. Melinda....will you.....consider moving in with me?
