Season 2 - Episode 4

We resume our episode this week at the apartment of Natalie and Sheena.

Natalie opens the door to find Joseph on the other side.

Natalie: Oh! Dr. Davenport! Hi.

Joseph: Hello Natalie. Is Sheena still asleep? I’ve been trying to reach her by phone all week. I really need to talk to her. It’s urgent. Could you please tell her that her father is here to see her?

Natalie: Oh um…….

Joseph: Natalie, is there a problem?

Natalie: No it’s just that uh……..Sheena is sleepin’…….

Sheena walks up behind Natalie in the doorway.

Sheena: It’s okay, Nat. Thanks….

Natalie looks at Sheena for assurance, before turning to go towards her room.  Sheena stands in the doorway and looks at her father.

Joseph: Hey baby girl….

Sheena stares back at him silence. She sees some of her own features in his face and this angers her even further.

Joseph: I don’t blame you for being angry with me. Can we talk?

Silence

Joseph: Please, Sheena…..just for a few minutes?  If you want, we can go our place and have some ice cream….

Sheena: Fine. Give me a few minutes to get dressed.

Sheena returns to her bedroom to dress and comes back about 20 minutes later.

Joseph: Look at my beautiful girl!

Sheena: Are you ready?

Joseph: After you…..

Sheena and Joseph walk out the door towards his car.

Over at Baldwin Memorial Hospital, Joi and the baby are winding down for the evening.

Jovan: Are you excited that you get to go home tomorrow?

Joi: Yes! I’m so tired of bein’ in here. I want to get home to my own bed.

Jovan: You know that’s kinda what I wanted to talk to you about.

Joi: Hmm?

Jovan: You know I love you and I already love Zion more than life itself…….

Joi: I know honey….

Jovan: Well….I was wondering…..how do you feel about gettin a place together?

Silence

Jovan: Silence is never a good thing.

Joi: I…I…I just don’t know what to say.

Jovan: I hope you’ll say yes.

Joi: But…what about the Alpha house?

Jovan: What about it? Those guys will be alright without me.

Joi: Wow Jovan.....I really didn't expect this...

Jovan: I know. I know it’s a lot to decide all at once. Just think about it, okay?

Joi: Okay.

The nurse walks into the room.

Nurse: Sorry to break it up, but new mommy needs her rest.

Jovan: Uh oh. I’m getting kicked out!

Joi starts to laugh.

Joi: We’ll see you in the morning, sweetie.

Jovan: Bright and early. Love you.

Jovan bends down to kiss Joi on her forehead.  He turns and leaves behind the nurse.  Just as he leaves and Joi is getting settled in for the night when she hears the door open. She thinks: What is Jovan doin’ back here already? She turns around is surprised that it is not Jovan who has entered into her room.

Joi: Patrick?

Scene 1 Continued...

At the ice cream shop, Joseph and Sheena find a table together outside.

Joseph: Is your ice cream okay?

Sheena: It’s fine.

Joseph: Butter Pecan! You been eatin’ that ice cream since you were a little girl sittin’ in my lap!

Sheena eats her ice cream in silence.

Joseph: Sheena, come on……..I’m tryin’ here……..give me something to work with here.

Sheena sighs deeply and begins to tear up.

Joseph: Oh baby…….please don’t cry….

Sheena: I can’t help it, daddy. I’m so mad at you!

Joseph: I know.

Sheena: No! You don’t know! Because if you did, you would have never done that horrible thing to mommy.

Joseph: Sheena……I know this situation is hard to understand.

Sheena: What is there to understand? You broke up our family!

Joseph sighs and places his ice cream down on the table. He reaches out and tries to place his hand on top of Sheena’s.  Sheena jerks her hand away.

Joseph: Sheena, I’m so so sorry….I know that sorry won’t fix it…..

Sheena (cutting him off): No it won’t.

Joseph: You have to know that I love you and I truly never meant to hurt you in this situation.

Sheena: Well you did.

Joseph: Baby girl, I’m so sorry…..

Sheena: I think I'm ready to go home.

Joseph: Sheena, I was really hopin' we could talk.

Sheena: Well I thought I was ready to talk to you but this has only showed me that I"m not. Maybe another day but right now, I'm still too upset.

Joseph: Okay, I understand. Let me just go inside to the restroom and then I'll talk you back to your apartment.

Joseph walks into the ice cream shop, leaving Sheena outside by herself. While Sheena is waiting, her cell phone begins to ring.

Sheena: Hello?

Romona: Hello, is this Sheena Davenport?

Sheena: Yes, it is.

Romona: Hi Sheena, this is Romona, the President's assistant. I was just callin' you to confirm that you'll be starting your year long internship with the President's office this Monday, correct?

Over at the Omega house, Kyle has just decided to check his email.

Subject: NEED TO TALK

Importance: High

Kyle,

Call me as soon as you get this. I got a very interesting call from the Health Center today. We need to chat......

Kyle slams his laptop closed and goes back to his bed to take a nap.

Kyle thinks: Yeah right...I ain't callin' you...

Kyle begins to doze off, but tosses and turns the entire time he is sleeping. He finally wakes up and sees Karissa sitting on the side of his bed. He is startled and jumps. He thinks he is dreaming, but quickly realizes he is not.

Kyle: How did you get in here?

Karissa: Armani let me in.

Kyle: Why would he do that?

Karissa: You know me....I have the gift of gab.

Kyle: Yeah, whatever.

Karissa: Did you get my email?

Kyle: Yeah I think so.

Karissa: You think so? Either you did or you didn't, Kyle. Stop playin' games!

Kyle: Fine, yes....I got it.

Karissa: So why didn't you call me?

Kyle: Karissa, what do you want?

Karissa: You know exactly what I want. I got a call from the health center sayin' I needed to come in about my STD testin' from the Health Fair.

Kyle: And? What does that have to do with me?

Karissa: Well I'm not really sure....that's why I'm here.....

Kyle: Excuse me?

Karissa: Kyle, just stop. I have only been with two people in the past six months. You and Shakir.

Kyle: Then maybe you should be havin' this conversation with your nasty boyfriend and not me!

Karissa: Kyle, I know that you took a test at the health fair cause I saw you and Armani leaving the tent. Now you are goin' to tell me what's goin on and I mean it!

Kyle: I said I don't know what you are talkin' about.

Karissa: You are such a liar! I know you know somethin!

Silence

Karissa: I'm headed over there now, Kyle.

Kyle: Bye.

Karissa angrily gets up and leaves Kyle's house.

Scene 2 continued...

Jovan bends down to kiss Joi on her forehead.  He turns and leaves behind the nurse.  Just as he leaves and Joi is getting settled in for the night when she hears the door open. She thinks: What is Jovan doin’ back here already? She turns around is surprised that it is not Jovan who has entered into her room.

Joi: Patrick?

Patrick: What’s up, Joi.

Joi: Wh…what are you doin’ here? The nurse said visitin’ hours are over.

Patrick: I know. I snuck past the front desk. I’m not goin’ to stay long….

Joi: I’m surprised to see you here.

Patrick: I know.

Joi: Well the baby is already back in the nursery.

Patrick: I saw him.

Joi: Oh. You did?

Patrick: He’s beautiful, Joi.

Joi’s face melts into a smile.

Joi: Isn’t he though? 

Silence

Joi: I’ve really missed our friendship.

Patrick: I know. I’ve missed it, too. You were always so easy to talk to. We used to ahve a lot of fun together.

Joi: I guess Krys broke up with you, huh?

Patrick: Yeah. She’s pretty pissed off at me. I really screwed up.

Joi: I signed the birth certificate this morning….so did Jovan.

Patrick: Jovan’s a good guy.

Joi: He’s wonderful.

Patrick: I’m glad that you and the baby will have someone there for you.

Joi: Excuse me?  Aren’t you here to take the test?

Patrick: What test? A paternity test?

Joi: Yes!

Patrick: No. Why would I do that?

Joi: Because Zion is your son! And you know he is, Patrick!

Patrick: Look, Joi…..Jovan’s a good dude………why are you even tryin’ to go there? What we had was over a long time ago. I mean……..I’m tryin’ to move on. I think I can really work this thing out with Krys but not with a baby.

Joi: What? I can’t believe you! Why did you even come here!

Patrick: Joi, I’m just trying to do what’s best for you and the baby. Jovan will be a way better father than I could ever be.

Joi: I hate you Patrick!

Patrick: You don’t mean that, Joi. In time, you’ll see that this is the best thing for us all.

Joi: Get out!

Patrick: Okay. I didn’t come here to fight. I’ll leave. But Joi….he really is beautiful….

Patrick turns to leave and Joi begins to sob in anger.

Scene 3 Continued...

Over at Stasha's room, she is working on a paper when Kyle arrives.

Stasha: Hey baby!

Kyle: Hey.

Stasha: What are you doin' here!

Kyle: I didn't like the way we hung up the phone earlier so I thought I would come by....and I don't know....I guess we need to talk.

Stasha: Aww honey I know you were tired! It's no big deal. But come in....

Kyle walks in past Stasha and sits down on the bed.

Stasha: So what you been up to?

Kyle: Nothin'. I took a nap.

Stasha: Oh. Was it a good one?

Kyle: No. I kept havin' nightmares.

Stasha: About what?

Kyle: It's not important. So what are you doin?

Stasha: Oh....just workin' on my Psych paper.

Kyle: How's that goin?

Stasha: It's goin, but I need a break anyway.

Stasha saves her paper and closes her laptop.

Stasha: So what's up baby?

Kyle: Oh uh...nothin...why do you ask?

Stasha: You said you wanted to talk to me about somethin'.

Kyle: Oh. Uh...never mind. It can wait.

Stasha: Okay.....well hey.....if you don't wanna talk, we could always do somethin' else....

Stasha gets up and goes and sits close to Kyle on the bed. She leans in and begins to kiss his neck and slowly starts to nibble on his ear. Kyle closes his eyes and lets out a slow moan. Stasha begins to move her hand up Kyle's thigh and Kyle suddenly grabs her wrist. Stasha opens her eyes and sees Kyle starring at her.

Kyle: Stash.....we can't.....

Stasha: What? Why?

Kyle: I....I just.....not today, ok?

Stasha: No it's not okay. Is something wrong with me? Why don't you want to be with me?

Kyle: It's not you, Stash. I just.....

The room phone begins to ring and an upset Stasha gets up to answer the phone.

Stasha: Hello?

Stasha begins to frown.

Stasha: Karissa, what are you sayin? I can't understand you. Calm down! Where are you?

Stasha continues to listen.

Stasha: I'm here in the room with Kyle. What? Okay....

Stasha hangs up the phone slowly and looks up at Kyle. Kyle begins to tremble.

Kyle: Wh....what's wrong?

Stasha: I don't know....that was Karissa....she was cryin' and yellin'....I could barely understand her. All I could make out was that she was on her way over here now and she has somethin' very important to tell me.....
