Season 2 - Episode 5 We resume our episode this week at Melinda's house, where she is having dinner with Mona. Melinda: Mona, you've barely touched your food. Mona: I'm not hungry. Melinda: Oh Mona! You have to eat. Mona; No I don't. I don't have to do anything. Mother, I am so furious. Melinda: I know you are, dear. How do you think I feel? Mona: But to bring in that inexperienced kiss up to do my job! Melinda: Mona, Sean was an excellent student at Ahpla. Mona: Was he even greek? Melinda: Mona, stop it. You know that Sean was a very active member of Iota Phi Theta at Ahpla. Mona: Yeah and Dr. M....M...whatever his name is....anyway he was his little kiss up when he was here. Melinda: Trust me, Mona, I know how you feel. Mona: No, you don't, mother! You get to have your job back in three months. I am fired for good! Melinda: We'll see about that... Mona: What did you say? Melinda: Nothing, sweetheart. Try to eat your dinner. Mona: I'm just so mad! Melinda: I know you are. But hasn't mother always taken care of you in the past? Mona: Yes. Melinda: So what makes you think I'm going to stop now? Mona begins to smile. Mona: Mom......what do you have up your sleeve? Melinda: Oh nothing dear.....nothing for you to worry about. Just enjoy your vacation while you can. You'll be back to work before you know it... ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Off campus, at a nice Italian restaurant, a few friends have gathered for Denitra's going away dinner. Denitra: I wanna thank all of you guys for comin' out to wish me well as I transfer to our sister school for the semester. Thanks everyone! I'm really goin' to miss you guys! Everyone seated raises their glasses in celebration. Lashonda, sitting beside Denitra leans over to speak to her privately. Lashonda: Denitra, where's Joriah? I thought you said he was comin'. Denitra looks up and looks back towards the door. Denitra: I guess he decided not to. Lashonda: Aww....you look disappointed. Denitra: I guess I am a little....I mean after everything we've been through....I can't believe he'd let me leave without sayin' goodbye... Lashonda: Well....tonight is not about him. It's about you. So just forget about it and let's celebrate! Denitra: Well you certainly seem to have changed your attitude about the matter. Lashonda: I might as well! You're leavin' whether I want you to or not. But dag girl! I am gonna miss you! Denitra leans over to hug Lashonda. Brian: Can you two please not start the cryin' again! Lashonda and Denitra look over at Brian and start to laugh. Brian: So Nitra, you'll definitely be back next semester, right? Denitra: That;s the plan! Brian: Good! Cause my baby is sure gonna miss you! And I don't even want to see how sad she would be if you decided to stay for an entire year! Joriah: She's not the only one. Everyone at the table looks up and sees Joriah standing there, holding a dozen red roses. He hands them slowly to Denitra. Denitra: Joriah....I....I didn't think you were comin'.... Joriah: Why wouldn't I? I can't let my Nitra leave without a proper goodbye, now can I.... ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Scene 1 Continued... After dinner, Mona is helping her mother clean up the kitchen when the phone rings. Mona: I'll get it! Melinda: Thanks, dear. Mona: Hello? Valerie: Mona? What you doing answering your mama's phone, girl! I thought you had your own place now! Mona: Auntie Val? Valerie: Of course, girl! Mona: I do have my own place! I'm just over here havin' dinner with mommy. Valerie: Good for you, Mona. Your mother needs all the support she can get right now. Where is she anyway? Mona: She's right here. Mom....phone... Melinda: Hello? Valerie: Hey, you old bat! Melinda starts to laugh Melinda: If I recall, you are older than me, Valerie Edwards, so if I'm an old bat, what does that make you! Valerie: An even older bat! The two start to laugh together on the phone. Melinda: And what do I owe this honor? Valerie: Well I wish it was purely a social call but it's actually more about that daughter of mine....have you seen her? Melinda: Lashonda? Mona's ears perk up and she turns to look at her mother before nervously going back to the dishes. Valerie:Yes, I don't know what is goin' on with her, Linda. She's been actin' so strangely lately. I mean I know she has a very nice boyfriend. Brian....do you know him? Melinda: Oh yes, I know Brian. He's an Alpha, right? Valerie: Yes, that's him. He's a very nice young man, so I'd hate to think something is going on with them that she's not tellin' me about. I just don't know what to do, Melinda short of coming up there. Melinda: You know you don't have to do that. Lashonda is my god daughter. I'd be more than happy to find her and see if she's okay.... Mona jumps in to interrupt. Mona: Lashonda? Mommy is something wrong with Lashonda? Melinda: Mona, quiet for a minute. I'm talking to your Aunt Valerie about something very serious. Mona: Well I was just sayin....I'm goin' on campus soon....I can check on her myself if you want me to.... Melinda: No, no Mona. I'm Lashonda's god mother. I think I better handle this one myself and get to the bottom of just what is going on with that girl.... ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Over at Laci's apartment, she is getting ready for a date when her phone rings. Laci: Hello? Taylor: Hey soror. Laci: Oh, um Taylor. What's up soror. Taylor: Nothin'. Just another borin' night for me. No date as usual. Laci: Aww... Taylor: So what are you up to tonight? Wanna go to a movie or something? Laci: Oh um...actually I have somethin' to do. Taylor: Oh really.........would that be a date? Laci: Um, somethin' like that. Taylor: Somethin' like that? Is it a date or not? Laci: I guess. Taylor: Go ahead soror! Who is it? And why you ain't tell me you met somebody? Laci: I don't know. I guess I wanted to see where it goes first. I ain't told nobody. Taylor: So who is it? Laci: It's no one. You don't know him. He goes to Amgis. Taylor: Hello! I transferred from Amgis! Spill it soror! Laci: Taylor, you don't know him, okay? He just started. Taylor: A freshman? Laci! Girl! Don't hurt the young boy! I need some details! When we gonna get together? Laci: Um, I don't know, Taylor. This week is kinda busy for me, but I'll let you know, okay? Taylor: Okay, girl! Have fun on your date! Laci: Thanks. Taylor: Later. Laci: Later. Laci hangs up the phone and walks back over to the mirror to smooth out her hair and reapply her lipstick. Just as she is putting on the finishing touch, there is a knock at her door. She goes over and opens the door. KaShawn walks in and gives her a hug. Kashawn: Hey beautiful! You ready for our date? ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Scene 2 Continued... Everyone at the table looks up and sees Joriah standing there, holding a dozen red roses. He hands them slowly to Denitra. Denitra: Joriah....I....I didn't think you were comin'.... She lays her head on his shoulder and closes her eyes and breathes deeply. For a second, everything feels the way it used to. Lashonda and Brian begin to scoot down so that Joriah can sit next to Denitra. Denitra: Joriah I'm so happy you are here! I really didn't think you were comin'! Joriah: Oh come on now, girl..... The hostess comes to the table and begins to take everyone's orders, which gives Joriah and Denitra a chance to speak privately to each other. Joriah: Dag Nitra, so you really goin' through with this thing huh? Denitra: You didn't think I would? Joriah: I don't know. I guess I was just hopin' you wouldn't.... Denitra: Why is that? Joriah: Nitra, you ain't never been one to run from your problems. You used to be a fighter. What happened to that girl? The Nitra I knew would have never ran with her tail between her legs to some other school. Denitra: Excuse me? How dare you! Joriah: How dare I what? Speak the truth? The only reason you gettin' mad is because you know it's the truth and you know I'm the only one who knows you well enough to say it. I mean this whole thing is so whack when you think about it! Mona put ya'll up to this crap and neither one of ya'll are doin' anything about it! Lashonda's godmother is the president of the doggone University and both of ya'll are just sittin' around moping and cryin' and not sayin' a word.You want her doin' this to somebody else in a few years? Do you know how much trouble she could get into if one of you would just open up your freakin' mouth and say somethin'! Silence Denitra: I don't know. That whole process could be so long and draining....I just wanna be done with it, Joriah... that old Denitra is gone. It's a new day. Joriah: I see that. Denitra: Did you come to my party to start a fight with me? Because if you did..... Joriah: What? You want me to leave? Denitra: No....of course not....look can you just drop it? I'm leavin' and that's it. There's nothin' else to talk about.... Denitra looks up and sees that Lashonda is looking towards the door with a look of shock mixed with fear. She turns around to see what is causing to her to look that way. She sees the new line of AKA's waiting for a table together and it seems they have spotted Denitra and Lashonda just at the same time that Denitra has turned around.... ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Scene 3 Continued... Laci hangs up the phone and walks back over to the mirror to smooth out her hair and reapply her lipstick. Just as she is putting on the finishing touch, there is a knock at her door. She goes over and opens the door. KaShawn walks in and gives her a hug. Kashawn: Hey beautiful! You ready for our date? Laci: Um...yeah.... Kashawn: That doesn't sound too sure... Laci: I am, I just.... Kashawn: What? What's wrong? Laci looks down at her phone. Laci: It's nothin'. I'm ready. Kashawn: You certainly are. You look gorgeous! Laci: Thanks! So where we goin'? Kashawn: I thought we could go and check out that new movie that came out. The comedy.... Laci: Oh okay. Sounds good. I'd love that. Let's go! Kashawn and Laci leave to go to the theater. Once they get to the theater, Kashawn goes around to the open the car door for Laci. Laci: Oh well thank you! Such a gentleman! Kashawn: Nothin' but the best for a special lady like yourself. After purchasing the movie tickets, Kashawn and Laci walk inside the theater. Kashawn: You think you want somethin' from the concession stand? Laci: Um, sure. Maybe just some popcorn and a bottle of water. Kashawn: No problem. Laci: I'm gonna run to the restroom, okay? Kashawn: Ok. I'll be right here waitin'! Laci walks into the restroom. She goes to the mirror to check her hair and just as she is about to walk out of the restroom, she runs into Taylor. Laci: Taylor! Taylor: Soror! Laci: What are you doin' here? Taylor: What do you mean? I told you I wanted to come to the movies! Laci: I know....but I didn't think you were comin' alone.... Taylor: Girl! Is your date here? Oh my gosh! You look so cute! Where is he? I know you don't want to introduce him yet but just point him out so I can see how cute he is. Laci: Taylor....I'd really rather not.... Taylor: Girl stop acting crazy! Taylor grabs Laci by the arm and drags her to the restroom door. Taylor: Now where is he girl? Point him out! I can't wait to see who you are here with!
