Season 2 - Episode 7 We resume our episode this week at the administration building, where the Ahpla Student Assembly Executive Board is gathered for a minute. Sydney: Okay, team, now that we've gone through old business, we need to discuss new business. We do have a guest speaker coming to address tonight. Let me see if he's arrived. Sydney gets up and walks out the office door. She comes back followed by Sean. Sydney: Everyone....I want to introduce you to the new Director of Greek Life....this is Sean. As you all know, the Director of Greek Life also serves as the advisor to the Student Assembly. I'm sure we'll all have an opportunity to introduce ourselves to Sean at the end, but for now, I'll just let him have the floor. The Assembly officers begin to clap. Sean: Thank you. It is certainly very nice to meet you all. Everything has happened so quickly with me taking on the position and moving back to the area.....I haven't had a minute to rest. I will be very quick tonight. I just wanted to come by and let you all see my face so you know who I am. My office is still in the same place that the prior Director's office was and I do have an open door policy. So please....anytime you need to come by and see me, please do. Sydney: Great! Does anyone have any questions for Sean? I know he's exhausted and problem wants to get home. Silence Sydney: Okay then. Well Sean, thank you so much for comin' by. I really appreciate it. Sean: Not a problem. And like I said, if any of you need anything...please let me know.... Sean turns to leave and then turns back. Sean: I"m sorry....I really must be tired, because there is one other item of business I need to take care of tonight. Sydney: Okay....what's that? Sean: In reviewing the files, I came across the information regarding the Assembly treasury. I understand that there is currently a case pending regarding this matter, correct? Sydney: Yes....it's with.... Laray: It's with me, Sean. Sean: Laray, correct? Laray: Yes. Sean: As the Advisor to the organization, it would be a complete conflict of interest to have you serving in this capacity while there is a legal matter at hand. I hate to have to tell you this way, but unfortunately I am going to have to exercise my executive rights and remove you for the office of treasurer.... ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Over in Kiaterria's room, she is watching TV when her cell phone rings. Kiaterria: Hello? Jeff: Hey baby. Kiaterria: Hey... Jeff: You still mad at me? Kiaterria: Should I be? Jeff: I don't know. If it helps any, I'm sorry.... Kiaterria: I guess that helps a little. Jeff: Is there anything else I can do to make it up to you? Kiaterria: I'm not sure yet.... Jeff: You wanna go out to dinner? Kiaterria: That might be nice.... Jeff: What are you doin'? It's so quiet. Kiaterria: In my room. Jeff: Why you not with your girls? Where your sorors at? Kiaterria: I have no idea. I been callin' Stasha and Karissa for a few days and neither one of them have called me back. Jeff: Hmm. Kiaterria: I mean I'm sure they are okay. Probably just busy. Jeff: Gotcha. So what's up? You want to go to dinner? Kiaterria: Jeff.....did you stop takin' all those pills? Jeff: Why are you askin' me about those pills? Kiaterria: What do you mean, why am I asking you? Because I'm concerned, that's why! Jeff: Look, I told you before to get off my back about those pills. So if that's what you want to talk about all night, you can just save it! Kiaterria: I thought you called me to apologize! Is this what you consider an apology? Good bye! KIaterria hangs up the phone on Jeff. It immediately begins to ring again and she presses ignore and sends it to voicemail. ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Scene 1 Continued... Sean: Laray, correct? Laray: Yes. Sean: As the Advisor to the organization, it would be a complete conflict of interest to have you serving in this capacity while there is a legal matter at hand. Sean: I'm so sorry that it had to come to this, however I'm sure if you just think about it, you'll understand the position I'm in. I had no other choice. Sydney: Sean, I was always under the impression that the removal of an assembly officer had to be passed through the Student Senate and decided upon a vote. Sean: Normally, that is the case. However, this is a clause that gives the Advisor executive powers to execute when deemed necessary. And in reviewing the files and the impending case, I felt it was peccary for me to use my executive power at this time. Sean turns to Laray. Sean: Laray, I'm so sorry about this. I certainly hope that you and I have not gotten off on the wrong foot because of this. It certainly isn't personal. It was a decision made in the best interest of the University . Right now, with you still serving in this capacity, you've become a liability to the office and to the University. I simply must protect the student body at all costs and the best way I could see to do that right now was this. Again, I'm sorry. Please turn in your key to the office to Sydney before you leave. Does anyone have any questions? Silence Sean: Very well, then. I'll be on my way. Sydney, please come by my office tomorrow so that you and I can set up our weekly one on one appointments. Sydney: Okay. Sean: Good evening, everyone. Sean turns without waiting for a response and exits the room. Sydney: Oh Laray! I'm so sorry! Laray begins to cry and Sydney runs over to hug her.... ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Over at the Jewel House, the brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha are gathered for an informal meeting. Devaughn: Alright phrat....what is this meetin' about? Brian: Who knows....Jovan said it was important. Devaughn: Jovan thinks everything is important. Nathaniel: I'm surprised he even tryin' to leave Joi and the baby at all right now. Brian: Yeah, I know right. Devaughn: Where's Demetrius? Nathaniel: Assembly meeting. He said he'd be over afterwards. Devaughn: Cool. Just then, Jovan walks in the door. Jovan: A-Phi! Devaughn, Brian, and Nathaniel: 000000000000000000-6! Jovan: What's up frat! Devaughn: What's up with you? What's little man up to? Jovan: Oh you mean future frat? Devaughn (laughing): Right! Jovan: He was sleepin'. Nathaniel: I'm surprised you left him for that long. Jovan: Yeah it was hard. That's my little man right there! I guess I should go ahead and tell ya'll.....I asked Joi if she wanted to move in together.... Nathaniel: What? Devaughn: Frat no! That's a definite revoke of the playa's card! Jovan laughs Jovan: Man I don't even care. I just wanna be around my little baby and my girl. Nathaniel: So she was cool with it? Jovan: I think so. I mean we ain't really talk about it since I asked her but I'll probably say somethin' about it later. Nathaniel: Wow.....so you're movin' out of the Jewel house? Finally, her room phone begins to ring. She angrily picks up the phone. Kiaterria: What do you want? Aunt Liz: Is that how you answer the phone for your favorite auntie? Kiaterria: Oh! Auntie Liz! I'm so sorry. I thought you were my boyfriend. Aunt Liz: Wow. That's how you answer the phone for him? Kiaterria: We're fighting. Aunt Liz: Oh I'm sorry. This is the white boy, right? Kiaterria: Aunt Liz! Aunt Liz: What? It is right? Kiaterria: Yes. Aunt Liz: Mmm hmm....Kyle told me about him.... Kiaterria: I'm sure he did.... Aunt Liz: Speaking of my son.....have you seen or talked to your cousin lately? Kiaterria: Kyle? No....why? Aunt LIz: I can't get a hold of him. I've been tryin' to call and it keeps goin' to voicemail. And then I tried to call his girlfriend....that sweet girl.....and she sounds so strange on the phone. Almost like she didn't want to talk to me. And I don't know why she wouldn't want to talk to me. I've always been nothin' but nice to that girl. I think she is just the sweetest thing....isn't she one of your sorority sisters? Kiaterria: Yes ma'am. Aunt Liz: Well has she been actin' weird to you too? Kiaterria: I haven't really talked to her this week, auntie. Aunt Liz: Well the whole thing is just strange to me. I can't figure these children out. Kiaterria: Well I certainly have no plans for the evening. Do you want me to go and see if I can find Kyle? Aunt Liz: Would you, baby? It would make your Aunt Liz feel so much better. You know you never stop worrying about your children. Kiaterria: I know. Aunt Liz: Alright now listen....don't you let that boy you fightin' with get you all stressed. If it's that bad, then you just break up with him. You'll find someone else. Kiaterria: No Auntie, it's not that bad....I just....he just hurt my feelings, that's all.... Aunt Liz: Okay....now listen...you call me if you need to talk. Kiaterria:I will. Okay I'm gonna hang up now so I can go over to Kyle's. Aunt Liz: Thank you baby. Call me back when you find out something. I will come up there if I need to..... Kiaterria: I sure will! Love you! Aunt Liz: Love you too sweetie! Kiaterria hangs up the phone and starts to put on her shoes to head over to the Omega House... ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Scene 3 Continued... Nathaniel: Wow.....so you're movin' out of the Jewel house? Jovan: Yeah.....that's kinda what I wanted to talk to ya'll about.....with the new baby and if Joi and I move in together.....it's just goin' to be so much goin' on that I don't think I'm gonna be able to handle it all so as much as a I hate to do it....I'm gonna have to resign from being president.... Silence Jovan: Did ya'll hear what I said? Brian: Yeah, man we heard you. Wow.... Jovan: Aww come on phrat, don't be like that. It's not like I'm leaving the fraternity. I just don't think I can handle being the president anymore. Nathaniel: You right man. It's just a little bit of a shock, I guess. Jovan: I understand. I mean I'm not gonna do it right away. I'll definitely transition out while the new person is learning everything.... Devaughn: That's cool, phrat. We understand. Jovan: Good, I'm glad. I just want what's best for the chapter. Brian: That's definitely understandable. Jovan: I was tryin' to wait for Demetrius so we could go over some budget stuff real quick before I left. Nathaniel: He said he was on his way. Devaughn: Well I got somethin' we can talk about while we waitin'. Jovan: What's up? Devaughn: I was thinkin'.....with everything that happened with the probate show for the new sorors....they never got a real comin' out show...... Brian, visibly uncomfortable with the conversation begins to sink down into his chair a bit. Devaughn: I was thinkin'.....why don't we throw the new sorors a party to celebrate their crossin' and give them another chance to finish out their probate show.... Nathaniel: That's a hot idea! Jovan: Yeah, I'm feelin' it! The sorors will love it. Devaughn: Brian....what's up? What you think? Brian: Oh huh? Yeah, sounds good.... Devaughn: You sure? You don't seem like you really feelin' it... Brian: Nah, I'm straight. Devaughn: Cool. I'll call Kennedy tomorrow and let her know what's up. Oh one thing though.....we gotta have some tight security at this party. After what happened at the probate, we gotta make sure that don't happen again. Neither one of those fake AKA girls are allowed at the party. It will just piss the sorors off and we don't want them to have any stress. This should be there night! Brian: Excuse me for a second.... Devaughn: What's up phrat? Brian: Have you forgotten that one of those fake AKA girls as you called them is my girlfriend? Devaughn: Oh my bad, B.....I forgot..... Brian: That's cool. Devaughn: So then we don't have to worry about security then....you can just let her know ahead of time not to come, right? Brian: Are you really serious? That's my girl! Devaughn: I know....and that sucks....but....unfortunately your girl is not welcome.....
